Propane smell

Hey folks. I have a 2014 frs

I've got an unrulling rotten egg / propane smell once the car is warm

I've been battling this a while. The first thing I did was change the cat. I went with an lachute high flow cat.

I've since retuned the car.

The car had its engine built a few years ago, eagle rods, ACL bearings Apr head bolts stock compression and crank.. baffled pan, greedy pick up.

Full exhaust.

The engine leaks a lot. The engine builder hasn't been helpful and hasn't fixed it. I plan to pull in the spring and fix the leaks.

Before the smell started I changed a coil pack, ( no 1 ), I had a track day and used an octane booster and later used a fuel system cleaner. It was fine during that period.

After a few weeks following these events the smell started. My first action was changing the cat. Still no luck. Would anyone have any ideas? Car runs well, tune looks good. No cel codes. Battery isn't leaking..

The smell is on the outside. I Can confirm the air around the car does indeed reek of a propane like scent.

The only thing on the car I think smells like this is gear oil. Gear oil contains sulfur compounds, which is notorious for bad egg smell.

Check your transmission and differential. Likely:
  1. The transmission rear seal (where the driveshaft connects)
  2. Blow-over from the transmission vent hole (near the top of the case)
  3. Axle shaft seals (differential casing sides)
However there are other possible joints, so look around the whole transmission and differential casing to see if it's wet with gear oil anywhere. If you see any sheen, dab some up with your finger and smell it. It's not a smell you can mistake

Not just the bolded part. But emphasis on the bolded part.
