The TNGA platform guess is just that, a guess. Whatever platform this is being built on (SGP or TNGA) mules are already out being tested, likely in plain sight.

Subaru uses some Jedi mind tricks and keeps any bits of info on new products very, very tightly controlled. Most of the prior sources that information could be weened from have been closed, or completely cleaned up. Toyota is no slouch on secrets either.

I believe that Subaru is doing much of the heavy lifting on the 2Gen, with Toyota inputting on body styling, and drive train (minus the engine) similarly to the 1st gen.

I also believe the TNGA claim is just a rumor, but we should see in aound 12 months...

Well, true, but that's sort of like Ford has built sports cars in their history, off and on, but with no real commitment until recently at least (now that neither company is really just Ferrari or Porsche or Bugatti)

Admittedly my statement has some holes in it, but I still think in general it holds some water.

Oh well. Now I know even less than I thought about the next gen.
EVERYTHING about the 2nd gen from when the rumors first emerged to now has been rampant speculation and guesswork.

The ONLY REAL 100% TRUE information that we have on the second gen 86/BRZ is that Subaru and Toyota are partnering up again to build a second gen 86/BRZ.

My next sports car will not be 2nd gen 86, unless it is a mid-engine turbo. I am tired of it drives but not fast argument. I want the burger and fries too. I am also not interested in installing superchargers and all that garage work. If I need to pay double at the time, I will do.

I just bought my brand new 86 less than a month. I know it is not a time to buy brand new one bcos next gen is just about the corner. I was seek of reading motor1 news and other rumours. They said so much thing about 2017 models and then what happened?

Pretty sure, 2nd gen would be better quality build, may be bit more powerful engine, better styling (I am curious here), fix other flaws of current gen.

But I believe, it will not get the same passion like current one that i fall in love with. Thats why i bought it. I am positive that i will not regret my decision after 2nd gen release

Think about the positive of having it RIGHT NOW!

You will enjoy it for the next year & half or 2 before you can even sit in the the next gen...

Not to mention if you wait for the next gen, it turns out to be a total turd and the first gen sells out of new ones that you wanted you are stuck either buying used or have to settle for whatever is left over.

And I put my money where my mouth is and bought a new one so in a year or so people can either laugh at or congratulate me on my foresight.

A car is kind of like the rest of the high tech toys we accumulate, The next model will always be "better", You may focus on what you think may be coming and get blindsided by something else entirely, our priorities change.

I was lusting after a TypeR before they released it. It was not what I expected but I knew what this 86 platform can do for morale and parking lot cones as my bro had been enjoying his for some time.

Oh,ok. I get it. You guys are talking about driving enthusiast cars and not reliable,A to B cars. In that case,it still was a blanketed statement to say that Toyota as a whole has sucked for years. Maybe I missed the context of the statement of something.

And yes,I've driven a version of all of those cars and they are solid. You know, sometimes you just need a car to get you to work and back and will last well over 200k miles. My aunt finally got rid of her Camry a couple of years ago and it was over 300k miles, still running well, and nothing out of the ordinary done to it in regards to repairs. If that's what people consider a sucky car, well I'll take two of them.
