Figured, just don’t understand why they would drill the bumper when they don’t on every other gt86 that doesn’t have a “body kit”

Hey, I know I am a little late, however, this car belonged to a guy I knew.
I won't get into much detail, but we were on a mountain run in NC when he understeered into the side of the mountain and flipped the car. It has been awhile, so I guess sharing pictures of the incident wouldn't be too disrespectful. Car only had ~600 miles on it?

Wow, seeing pics like these makes me understand why my insurance rate is so high. Glad everyone is OK, but I honestly don’t know how you can flip a car with such a low center of gravity. Did he slide up an embankment? The TRDs have stickier tires than regular stock too. Was the traction control on?

Yeah, this is weird. There are trees above him, so he didn't fall down. But the road looks straight right there, and there's no skid marks or debris trail that suggest he slid into it on the roof or the tires. I'm not sure how he managed to flip it right there at all.

The wall was slightly sloped; I think his car rode up on the incline and flipped. If i recall correctly, he said he steered too sharply causing understeer. These cars barely have any negative camber from the factory up front. It was sad, but he was ok in the end.

Given the location, near the highest concentration of black bears in the US, he could say "Officer, I had to swerve to avoid the bear".

My insurance was econobox cheap for full coverage with the lowest deductibles. Of course, all available discounts applied and there are so many variables that it's hard to compare different drivers rates.

As far As I can recall the record was held by a guy that slid into a ditch and rolled the car about 200 yards from the entrance to the dealership. Had like 4 miles total on it, he had driven it the 200 yards and it was totaled.

You can see the torn up turf as he came down of the embankment. Presume it was even higher further back. It can take a surprisingly small ramp incline to flip even a low COG car if the speed is high enough.

It wouldn't have been appropriate at the time haha (although we did joke about parting it out at the scene, the fiends that we are)

Hitting the embankment makes sense. That’s a crying shame to not even get past the break in period. If he was new to rear wheel drive, the change in dynamics might have thrown him enough to do it. Having mostly driven front wheeled myself I still get surprised when the rear slides out unexpectedly. I am thankful when traction control kicks in. It works surprisingly well. Of course, there are times you want it to slide out, but driving on a narrow mountain road with no shoulder is not one of those times.

What’s his story now? Did he get another? Went for something else?

I think it might be the opposite though. People think, oh rear wheel drive, no worries. They don't realize it's still front biased and will naturally understeer if you overcook a bend.
