I'm planning to get a Shorai battery soon and was hoping to use the OEM tie down. Do you have another link to that pic? It's not visible anymore thanks to Photobucket.

I remade it and now use spacers betwin the nuts and the tie down.

What's the point of adding the spacers? It looks like the Shorai battery just "sits" on the OEM battery tray. Is the OEM tie down able to secure the Shorai battery in place? What's the gray foam looking stuff?

I'd like to get the Shorai LFX36L3-BS12 battery but would rather use the OEM tie down and J hooks, if possible. However, it seems like most people either built their custom bracket or spent ~$100 on an aftermarket set. Just wondering if that's absolutely necessary?

As for the Shorai battery itself, I live in SoCal but sometimes only drive my car once every week or every other week. Anyone with experience in a similar situation?

If you only drive your car every once and a while put the battery on a Shorai tender.

I'd say the same with the stock battery too.

The little battery is shorter so spacer is added to adapt the anchor bolts. I'd prefer to see a hunk of 2x4 under the battery but whatever works.

Please don't consider going without a bracket. For example, put a bowling ball in the passenger seat and then slam on the brakes. *

*Don't actually do this.

But in his first picture, he didn't use any spacers and that seemed to have worked? Just wanted to confirm this method actually works to secure the Shorai battery.

I saw that too. I'm sure that it didn't work. The anchor point on the firewall is is right up there. That's why I would raise the battery. Not so much because of the length of the bolts, but that rear anchor point is up so high. Hell, I'd raise the battery so the terminals are approximately at the same height as stock. That's what the harness fits.

I had the bracket flipped upside down to compensate for the lack of height... not the best option... the foam wrapping was so it would not cut the battery since the reverse side becomes 2 thin edges... The spacers are top compensate from the lack of thread on the J hooks

Anyway, I no longer have the battery that way...

Thanks! What did you end up doing?

Looks like I might just have to pony up and get the P-Tunning bracket, which looks the cleanest and easiest from an install standpoint.
