Most "suck" setup
Hey there guys,
I've owned my FR-S for 8 or so months now and have reached a breaking point with picking out rims. For the past 6 of those 8 months, I've been searching "tire"lessly (I hate myself for saying that) for what kind of XXR 527 I wanted to get. I'm pretty much sold on the XXR 527 18x8.75 +35 at this point. However, I sortof wish they had more "suck" than they do. I know that the 8.75 in +25 would be wayy to much poke, so is there another setup using 8.25 or something else that would maximize the "suck"? If I'd have to use spacers that's fine. Just so you know, I started out knowing absolutely nothing about sizing or anything. This forum has been my only source for knowledge I'm open to having to buy coilovers (Tein Flex) but I'd really like to just stick with the Ebach springs for now. Thanks for your help! EDIT: also yes, my car was stuck in this picture RIP me |

Nice pic!
8.75 +35 will fit in the fenders fine. You may want camber bolts for the front to drop it in a bit, the rear will be good. Flip through this thread http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7535 Ignore the colors and designs, just look at the specs. Open a few in the size you want, find one with the ride height you have (or want to have) and decide what you think. There’s no way to increase the offset of a wheel, spacers will decrease the offset, closer to zero/ more “poke” My wheels are 17x8 +40, with a 5mm spacer in the back. 8.75 +35 will have 14.5mm more poke. My front camber is -1*40’, very conservative. |

Sorry! (my novice showing here) That's what I meant. Getting a skinnier XXR rim but one that has LESS offset, then getting a spacer to make it flush. Thanks for the link!

The rear is quite a bit wider than the front in hub to fender relations. |

why run a spacer when you can just buy a wheel with the correct offset to fit how you would like?

If you want more suck why not get 18x8 +42? there is no 18x8.25 there is a 17x8.25 +35. Personally, id go for the 18x8 +42 or 17x8.25 +35 which will give you a nice flush fitment if you get Eibach springs.

Thanks for the feedback! I ended up purchasing 527s in 18x8.75. I do have a final question. Since I'm basically all about looks, I'm looking for a tire that has a simi-slick look. My favorite tires are the NITTO NT01/05 but I can't really afford them, especially knowing how hard I drive. Does anyone know of a tire that looks similar? (smooth curve from sidewall to tread)? Thanks again!

I have the Indy 500 and they are very good looking, got a lot of grip on dry (not so much on wet) and they are really cheap. The best all around value for the price IMO.
Some people tend to overlook the design of tires for the overall apperance of the car. I used to love the performance of my Coopers on my previous car, but they were ugly as hell, and it was bothering me everytime I looked at the car. |
