Noisy a/c vent?

Noticed yesterday how annoying the din coming from the passenger footwell is when I have the A/C on. Doesn't matter where I direct the airflow to, that's where the sound comes from. Is the A/C pump or whatever located behind the dash there? If you ever had a very old TV that would produce this annoying constant tzzzzzzz sound, then you know what this sounds like. It's like white noise. I have to play music, otherwise it's drilling into my brain. Wonder why I never noticed it before. Anyone else have this?

Sounds like a loose vent flap.

I suggest you wiggle things around there to see if you can make it stop.

Bubba says to push on things around there, then when you find what is buzzing, stuff a piece of dry sponge behind the housing that holds the vent.

I always assumed it was the blower motor bearings or fan making a noise.

I fixed it with a catback.

I believe it is the fan as well. I also use the catback/overly loud music correction method.

If it's strictly the A/C then you hear the refrigerant spraying into the evaporator. You should hear it start spraying when the compressor kicks in and then for a few seconds after it cuts out.

The compressor cycles to keep the evaporator from freezing.

If it's just "ffffffffffffffffffffff....." then it's normal. If it's "zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...." then maybe you have a leaf rubbing on the squirrel cage.

Yeah, the tiniest pine needle or whatever will act like the old playing-card-in-the-spokes trick. Annoying but meh. Sometimes it works itself free. ...sometimes.

Click the readme on my sig. Pick a manual and drill down.

Vehicle Interior > HEATING / AIR CONDITIONING > FRONT BLOWER MOTOR

Easy peezy.

Disclaimer: linked manuals are not mine and could go stale any time. Read it while you can.

Does it change with fan speed?

Mine has had a slight ticking since day one. Sounds like the fam blades is just off kilter by a hair. I don't even notice it anymore unless I actively listen.

On low speed I can hear a slight runout on the commutator. The brushes don't quite squeak but they make a little noise. DGAF. Perfectly ok.

That could very well be it. I never worried enough to really pay that much attention.
