2013 FRS Headlight Bulb Options?

So after 9 years one of my low beam bulbs finally burned out. I've done a lot of work on my FRS, but am pretty clueless about headlight options these days. Do I have to use another halogen bulb or can I pop in LED's? Or do LED's require a conversion kit on the 2013? If I can only use halogens again, what's a good long lasting bulb to get?

If you are asking this question just stick to a regular bulb.

LED's require ALOT of research you need to do.

Yeah I've been looking into it and it seems like more trouble than it's worth to me. May just try to get the OEM bulbs from Toyota or Subaru. Does anyone know the part number?

The Sylvania bulbs have always treated me well.

Pick one.

Pretty sure the right answer is that same as it is for other platforms that came with Halogen Bulbs. Replace the Halogen Bulb with a Halogen bulb, or replace the whole assembly with one designed for an HID or LED bulb. Otherwise the beam pattern is going to be crap, and you are likely to be scattering a lot of light (glare) into oncoming driver's eyes..

Stick with OSRAM or other well known, European manufactured, bulbs for the best quality..

Appears the replacement is an H11. Here are some threads from Candlepower discussing H11 replacement options..

https://www.candlepowerforums.com/th...-bulbs.254193/ (higher output but lower life option that requires some very basic modification)

I have LED low beams in my '13, and have had no issues with pattern, and they were definitely an improvement on projection. The hi-beams are a different story. Since they run as DRLs at half power, you need to either turn off the DRLs, or not replace them.

That said I did replace them with LEDs and it really hasn't been an issue in daylight. You definitely need to remember to turn the lights at dusk though.

I've been using these GTR Lighting Ultra 2.0 LED low beams for over a year now with no issues. Love the improved visibility over halogens:

For halogens, I've had good success with Sylvania, Philips and Hella with various cars and fitments.

If you want to stick with OEM, the Toyota part number is 90981-13075.
