So this is an alternative way to connect the hoses compared to another DIY?

Correct. Although in this case, you purchase the cooler as a kit, with all the parts and hoses required to connect to the locations I've used in the video.

Did you drain the coolant for the install? If not, how much coolant comes out when you disconnect the loop hose? Gushing out or just a small flow?

Depends how quickly you do it. The bottom hole doesn't flow at all, but the top hole continues to flow until you put the hose on. You lose whatever is in loop pipe, plus whatever comes out before you get the next pipe on. Just be careful it doesn't come out of the pipe an in to the throttle body.

The cooler is $135 USD, delivered to Australia would be max 180 AUD, add the hoses and clamps at best $200 AUD.
He needs to make money, but $450 is way too high for me.

When connecting the hoses to the TB, does it matter which hose goes to the top and which goes to the bottom?

Do you get the same kind of mass flow in the cooler as with the Forester-like set-up?

Why didn't you burp the air from the coolant system?

I would imagine so. It's also the same setup that's used on the MY15 WRX. although they use different locations for the oil feed on the WRX.
