Yeah money wise it makes no sense. Years ago I was gonna buy a 993 roller for pretty darn cheap. Started looking at Porsche engine prices and was totally depressed. My dream of a cheap 993 was over. Also you can only do these types of swaps if you plan on keeping the car forever. Resale is very tough, too much labor costs for anyone to break even.

This is an old thread, but 981 engines are pretty cheap (like 6k) and strong (the 3.4 is a reduced displacement 3.8 and the 2.7 is a further reduced displacement engine, so they have cranks and rods that can take far more than 8000rpm).

Torque tube and rear transaxle would be ideal to avoid adding 100lbs to the nose, but I feel like this is one of the easier and cheaper ways to get reliable 370hp (from the 3.4, more like 300 from the 2.7). It has oil to water heat exchanger, oil scavenge pumps, variable displacement oil pump, large capacity sump, a high amperage alternator, electronic thermostat all built in.

Well, if you identify all the interfaces and give it everything it needs, it should be fine if you get a programmable ECU.

Mounts, fuel, coolant, air, ignition, sensor outputs, and servo inputs.
