Brake hose dilemma
After 3 months of scrounging up various parts from all over the country, I've finally got all of the parts to do my PP conversion on my '13 FRS. Great!
EXCEPT for brake hoses... not an OEM set to be had in the US. Since this is a street car first, autoX second, I was going to use OEM hoses, because it's been my experience that stainless/teflon turn the pedal into a rock. That's been years ago, so perhaps I'm just old and remembering wrong. So, do I either a) just go with stainless and deal with the rock pedal, or b) find an aftermarket rubber alternative, or c) find a way to make the 2013 ones fit (which seems like a bad idea). Thoughts? |

Spend a little extra money and get overseas???
Why is that not an option? Where do you think OEM parts come from? |

Evidently, it's a manufacturing thing I'm being told by Subaru. I can try to source them from overseas, worth a shot. I don't want someone to take my money only to have the order sit unfulfilled forever on backorder (learned that lesson already)

I've fitted stainless braided lines to two different cars now including my 86 and noticed no significant change in pedal response. Both HEL brand, mind you. I think you'll be ok.

Try Toyota. They might have stock.
The only warning I have regarding SS lines is to watch them closely and make sure they don't wear through. Unlike OEM lines, SS lines typically are not fully restrained. They are free to slip through the retaining point. This can cause them to rub through and fail. This is probably why TRD no longer offers stainless steel lines for their brake kits. See below image. These are Brembo-supplied Goodridge brake lines |

Yes, try Toyota.
Not sure about elsewhere but here in the GTA (greater Toronto area) identical parts are significantly less at Toyota than at the Subaru parts counter. We’ll worth a try.
