Straight currency conversion is a poor guide to car prices.

Currency conversion is one important pricing factor plus national political and economic conditions that determine content and value. Other variables apply but in the US, we'll never get the opportunity to see what could have been. |

They make boatloads of horrible decisions and always have. There is a reason Toyota is viewed as boring as hell in the USA, because anything even remotely interesting they keep from us. Then the automakers had that asinine 25 year law passed for imports. Automakers are the #1 enemy of auto enthusiasts. |

Im wondering if it partially had anything to do with the Yaris being based on the mazda2 here for a couple years (which overlapped with the release of the global TNGA Yaris). And then also partially slow sales of small cars......
Cuz even if we take the GR YAris out of the equation (which is somewhat bespoke compared to the global yaris), North America just didnt get the redesigned global yaris. It doesnt make sense to bring in a GR Yaris based on the global yaris that north america does NOT get as another piece of the model hierarchy alongside the mazda2 based yaris and pretend they're more or less the same car. I mean the Yaris lineup got a little messed up with the demise of Scion, but they kept the Toyota Yaris and the Mazda Yaris separate for a year (as sedan and hatch) before going full Mazda2 on both. |

[QUOTE=why?;3383836]Because the piece of garbage Honda Civic Type R is selling so poorly even after dealers add $20k to the sticker... oh wait..../QUOTE]
No longer. Most are offered at MSRP before negotiations, some thousands below sticker: https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/new/nl...c-Type-R-d2568 |

Maybe search filters change by location? I'm showing 75 at MSRP or less using nationwide radius. https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/new/se...edEntity=d2568 |

It’s hard to say how well they would sell here if they were actually priced in the 40s. That’s a lot of money for a Yaris when you consider what kind of car you can get here for that money.
Look at the STI Type RA. People were crying and moaning for almost two decades that we never got the hot STIs here and they were strictly for JP/EU markets only, knowing damn well they were 45-60k or more over there too. Then we finally get one her and the overwhelming majority of people say “lol I can build a way better STI for 50k”. And it was even worse with the S209 lol. Some of the dealers that got them had them sitting for months before they moved. Granted the GR Yaris is waaayyyy different to the base model, but it’s easy for people to arm chair from behind a computer and say “man I’d totally buy that if it was sold here” because there’s no commitment associated with it. It’s just talk. Out of all the people saying they’d buy, how many could ACTUALLY afford to buy? And of those, how many actually would? IF it ever came here, it’d almost certainly be a very limited/low production vehicle. But that’s just my opinion.

Don't forgot, it's also here so you can spout your opinion as fact, that is a fact.
