Ok, to eliminate variables, can anyone confirm my repin was correct?
I used the same repin pattern as @solidsnake11, pink from 27 to 9, white from 32 to 8.

Pin 9 is actually not labeled 9 on my connector, it's labeled CLSE. Normal?

2017 abs module on 16 down

GUYS I GOT BAMBOOZLED!

The 2017 ABS pump I got had a 2015 (built in 2014) VSC module bolted to it! 2015-2016 modules are already wired like the 17+ models.

I just installed a 2018 dated VSC module from a 2019 86 TRD, and it works! Track mode requires a 3-second press now!

So check the dates on the black VSC module! Junkyards are already mixing and matching them.

@solidsnake11, I made a more complete diy in the previous post so all the info is in one place. Feel free to copy it into the original post.

Holy shit I truly did not expect to call that one so close @Yoshoobaroo. Congrats on track mode!

Now to find out if AT one works. As i suspect that there might be more AT ones out there, in case of success it may ease finding part for upgrade.

BRZs are 85% manual. I found more modules from manual cars than autos. What I did find was that the price for these things is all over the place. Most 17+ modules are 100-150 USD. My module from a 2019 TRD 86 was $120, but another TRD VSC was $300!

Note that there is nothing special about the VSC module of a TRD 86.

85% MT even in US, where IIRC >90% of all cars are AT? That sounds surprising to me. Still, more possible donors from breakeryards would be better, even though not to extent more that i imagined initially, and should simplify choice by asking/checking only for year, not transmission type.

The TRD's seems to be popping up in scrapyards. I guess they are selling well? Bright side.

Do you know if the CA060 etc. is just related to the different software stored on the ECU, of they are phisically different, like different valving?

My bet is on just minor revisions not worth "recall" nor listing in new updates docs level. Possibly slight revisions on HW, afterall PN changed, possible slight revisions to FW. I wouldn't care much about that, or at most google on PN and see car years compatible with it as specified by Toyota/Subaru .. or rather not, as all listed provide MY2017 track mode (and for some, hill assist), so imho not worth caring for. Especially that it's not THAT easy/quick to hunt down used MY2017 vsc module at good price, having more different revisions fit for a job helps, and i'd just get whichever pops up for sale first no matter of which from several MY2017 MT revisions it is.
