The dealer by me has a 20 year/200K warranty on all the cars they sell new/used/certified which I missed out on by several months buying mine before they implemented that.
If they had a 2016 with super low miles like my 15' at 8k, I might do it to gain that warranty and if the 17' was a decent enough price just do that bumper swap. Maybe even
make that part of the deal. If enough people show their disgust in the change, maybe they will think about changing something just to change it for the new model year.
If it isn't broke, don't fix it.
Their marketing people spend a pile of time and money on research and know what the bulk of the public is after even if we don't agree with it.
They have always changed and always will it is the nature of the beast.
To the best of my knowledge there is only one manufacturer that never changed their body style for their vehicles through most of their entire existence. Where are they now?

They changed to those double headlights, went under and they deserve it for that.

They won't change it because it's part of a larger plan. I posted this a while back, and I think it still applies:

I couldn't figure out why they screwed up the front bumper on this car, but now I see what they're doing. That weird new nose is aligning the car visually with the FT-1 concept:

This way, when the FT-1 comes to market, that sharp nose won't look completely foreign. I suspect the next redesign of the 86 will have an even sharper nose to fill in the gap between this refresh and the FT-1. It will look like a natural evolution of the style they already established.

Or is the F1 being designed to align with the rest of the models?
There is far more Corolla or Prius in that front end than F1.

Maybe it's intentional so to ensure interested buyers won't bypass the Lexus IS/RC and go to the Toyota 86 just because the 86's front bumper looks nicer than the Lexus IS/RC hourglass front Sometimes you wonder what their marketing/designers are thinking...

Take a look at the BRZ - you may like that front better and it's got nicer interior anyway, at least when compared to the North American version of the 86.

The 86 is a much nicer car than the a 2013 FR-S, for sure. Not sure about "better", and I too dislike the front. As has been said, it's not as bad as it looks in pictures but I'm swapping the front this spring barring some calamity.

However, this stupid looking front end is just what everyone wanted when they complained about lack of "aggressiveness". I suspect the actual second gen is going to be stupidly ugly.

There's still the BRZ as an option.

Better looking both inside and out than the 2017 86.

Works for me.

Well I don't like the fact they've softened the ride, also made them quieter, both cars.

God, what will 2018 bring ?
