need to either find the magic vin and get them from Canadian dealership or just stick with the black ones. Right now the dealership is offering the black ones @ $475 CDN ea ($50 off their list price) which is considerably cheaper than buying from the US now with the CAD being even weaker. The retail price for the gunmetal ones is supposed to be cheaper than the black ones too.

I'll see if i can find out the magic vin to unlock the pricing for the gunmetal ones before pickup date for car. i'd be willing to pay the same price as the black ones for the gunmetal ones just because they don't have the peeling finish issue. That american website above calculates shipping @ nearly 800 CAD and which brings the total to $2900 CAD - over 1k more expensive than a set of the black ones from the dealership.

I paid $775 tax in for an 860 wheels this past fall...:|
Also, every RS2.0 I've seen has a peeling clear coat looking issue on those black wheels.
I'd get them and have a wheel refinisher paint them gunmetal.

A different dealership's part department just got back to me today:

"Good Morning Wilson,

Just following up on your inquiry regarding the TRD Forged wheel ( PTR20-18160-GR). I just confirmed with Toyota and unfortunately this wheel is not available for order here in Canada. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. Have a great day and stay safe!
"

so are the gunmetal ones absolutely not available in Canada? lol what years were these wheel an option for USA 86's? i wonder if I should try an american vin to see if they can pull anything up

The good thing is it only seems to be the clear coat peeling, people are saying the underlying paint seems pretty solid. Would ceramic coating these wheels new prevent the clear coat from peeling? just wondering as I plan to ceramic coat this car once I pick it up so maybe can give the guy a few extra bucks to do the 4 wheels as well before I mount rubber on them

Any USA owners remember the years these were offered as an optional add-on for their FR-S/86 and willing to pm me their american vin for me to give a shot to see if the dealership can pull anything up with it?

I don't know that ceramic will help faulty clear coat from peeling off to be honest. I feel like you'd just end up losing the ceramic too.

Dang... that would suck. might just have to strip the clear coat and reapply normal clear coat instead of that metallic stuff that doesn't bond well

I thought someone suggested just to go to a US Toyota Dealer website and pull a VIN from their stock listing. Or Cars.com or Autotrader.com

Nope I don't think anyone suggested that until now. Didn't know american dealerships post their VIN numbers on listings. Thanks! got one for a '17 trd edition
EDIT: actually not trd edition, but looks like a special edition of some sort due to full leather interior, but it has the wheels I want on it

So a bit of a disappointing update... I guess the american VIN did unlock something, but parts manager said toyota canada got back to him for the price quote request and said "I just got word back from Toyota Canada. Those rims are not approved for the Canadian Market. We can only get the black rims."

Toyota Canada sucks. Doesn't even offer the full selection of North American parts. first they skip out on offering the trd handling package up here, now i find even non-limited edition wheels aren't available
