My wife and I went for a nice cruise last weekend. It's been tough finding time just the two of us with our 2-year-old daughter. The weather was great, the lack of traffic was great, the roads to our destination were great. But something was missing - our daughter.

I know the backseats in an FRS aren't much, but it offers more than the S2K. Other cars that I was heavily interested in included both 996 and 997 Porsche 911's (don't yell at me about IMS bearings lol). Very nice cars, awesome exhaust note, but few are available in my region, and even fewer in my comfortable price point that are worth buying.

I keep getting drawn back to this forum for the community, and the FRS-triplets continue to remind me "hey, you wanted us all along. What's the hold up?" It'd be nice to pick up one of these and share my passion for driving with my entire family.

Reading this post is like DejaVu for me. I actually bought my AP1 10 years ago when my first born was 2 months old! (I swear I thought I was the coolest dad with the coolest wife, who buys a roadster AFTER just having a kid? ). But like you, I never found much use for the car and contemplated selling quite a few times but never did. They are just so unique and more importantly, appreciating. I didn't see an immediate need. Instead, i bought a 8th gen 4 door SI to accompany the AP1. As time passed, the AP1 just sat more and more. With the kids older now, I recently replaced the 8th gen SI with a BRZ as they can climb in and out of the BRZ themselves. It was a great decision as the kids loves riding in the BRZ and I am finally learning to drive RWD properly.

A few things I have learned that I will pass onto you:
  • Do not even think about buying a sportscar with young kids if you need car seats. Yes, you can make it work but it's a total PITA. I can't imagine crawling in there and buckling them up on a reg basis. It will get old quick.
  • My buddy bought a 911 for the same reason as I but his kids are much younger (car seat young). Guess what? He is not using his 911. lol.
  • The BRZ will work better, IMO, when the kids have the ability to climb in and out and buckle themselves in.
  • This CANNOT be your only car (I think this is obvious but I will mention anyways). We still have my wife's 4 door in the event of bad weather, road trips, need to haul some additional cargo etc.
  • The car in general is small and sometimes, I do feel their safety is jeopardized.
But overall, I am really surprised at the utility of this car. It does 90% of a family car while being uber fun. My kids loves it when I drop clutch at a U turn! Best of luck with your decision.

We have 3 cars, the Honda is the weekend toy. My wife said "stop being stupid, you love that car. Keep it or you'll regret selling it." Seems I found the right wife
