Weird Noise On Deceleration

Hey guys ive had this frs for about 4 years now its manual and recently it started making a weird sound from under the car to the back end similar to a grinding sound but it only makes it when im in gear and foot not on the gas. Mainly in 1st, 2nd, 3rd Gear the higher ones it barely makes any sound and when the car is hot its almost non existent. When im in neutral the sound is still there but very quiet. any ideas ?

Might want to jack it up and take a closer look, you won't really know until you thoroughly inspect the suspected area.

The "grinding sound" makes me suspect that it may be your TOB but since you said it's near the back, I'd say check your rotors/brake pads? Is the car modified? Was there anything changed recently?

only bolt ons really but nothing recent. i was thinking it was my brakes because they are overdue for being changed. it only really happens when engine braking as well but the sound doesnt come from the engine bay

Try inspecting them to see how much life is left on the pads.

Depending on how many miles are on those pads and how hard you drive your car, it may be time to get them replaced.
You could also swap out the old rotors too since you're already there.

They could be but you won't know for sure without taking a look at them first.

If it only makes it in gear, it sounds like a transmission or differential problem. Maybe backlash out of adjustment?
