ticking sound with el header install.

Just replaced my borla uel's with hks el headers. what a difference in sound it made.I'm not shure if i like it or not.my question is for guys that run el headers.i hear tick tick tick sound while under acceleration. I thought it was an exhaust leak but I inspected everything and everything seated properly and is clean, no signs of a leak anywhere.no black carbon on anything.is this just the injectors I'm hearing?the exhaust is much quieter than the uel.mabe I just didn't hear it before. Any input would be great.

Maybe it is an exhaust leak? I had the same problem when I put my headers.

So where did the leak end up being, at the head flanges or the overpipe connection?

Check your overpipe. Also, it may be helpful to loosen everything and start from your header and work your way back to the tailpipe. Maybe buy new gaskets.

Question

Ended up getting it checked out at a shop-- had a leak at the flange-- it seemingly fixed the added ambient sound in the cabin with most of the sound coming out the rear. The tick between 2k-3k in like 3rd or 4th gear, still exists... might be just the way it is with the EL headers. Not sure really, but I can hear it more now than I could before....

Without exhaust shielding you will end up with some added noise. I did put exhaust wrap to reduce the engine bay temps and some sound deadening. It helps a bit.
But overall you will have to live with it.
