The K24A2 is pretty solid. The head flows better, there are four exhaust ports, and the engine is simpler. The exhaust is on the left instead of the right like it is on the K20C1, and the K20C1 has a bunch of water pipes off the rear of the engine, which makes it harder to fit against the firewall. I'll take the cheaper price and the extra displacement of the K24 and not have to deal with direct injection or other stuff. Plus, the Kpower Industries setup will be for a K24A2 most likely with a wiring only for that engine--maybe for other K24A series or K24Z series.

These used K20C1 engines are more or as expensive as a new crate motor, which is odd. One would figure that the price would be sub $5k if a new crate motor is $6500. They were running around $8-10k when the crate motors were $5k and only for Honda race teams.

One thing to consider is the K20C1 does include a turbo, so that is something to weigh when factoring in price. It also has direct injection, which someone could add port injection if they wanted to go crazy. The crank is off-center, inline with the power stroke, so there is less lateral forces. Pistons are forged too, but the rods aren't a whole lot better than the K24's, from what I understand. It is 86x86 2.0L, so it jives with the car's 86 ethos.

I don't mind the FA20. It was good while it lasted, and it has some character that I enjoyed, but Toyota could have teamed up with Honda on this one, and knocked it out of the park.

Yea the only reason why I say the new k20c is simply the peace of mind. Stock motor will put you right around what a boosted fa20 would and give it a flex tune and you can make some serious power and not have to worry about pre detonation or heat really since e85 burns much cooler. You'd have a solid engine making more than enough power. Granted to older k24 could rev up much higher and with the higher displacement you could make more. But these new type R crate motors damn near come plug and play.

The K24a2 + turbo kit is still going to be cheaper than a K20c1. Besides that fact, the big sell for me is seeing what package KPower has for our chassis with a wiring harness, CANBUS translator and standalone Haltech configured to marry the two together on top of engine and trans mounts, adapter plate for the transmission, intake manifold and essentially everything that is needed to make this a plug and play setup. That is going to be hard to beat.

These guys make a swap kit too, but it isn't a complete kit as is:

A turbo has a little more drama and screams JDM to me that I am leaning that way. If I wanted NA feel, which feels great, than I would do a NA build or stick to a LS3. Naw, I will turbo.

Yeah JR already said they are in development for a k series setup on facebook.

Wow, thats a bummer and you definitely don't do things by halves do you?!?

On the bright side, that rod will look awesome, polished and mounted on a plinth sitting on your desk!

Great attitude though, you had a really good run with something that was highly stressed, learnt a lot and really enjoyed it.

After that amount of time with that amount of power, in reality going back to NA in your BRZ would hurt every time you started your car... so a good call to keep FI on the agenda.

Mate, you are going to have a ball planning and executing the next step!!

Thanks. Yeah, it was fun, and obviously it would be nice if it didn’t blow, but I was already eyeballing that K swap, even though I was happy with my setup.

I will definitely keep some parts as trophies for the garage.

KPower revealed in an email that the kit will utilize the stock FA20 throttle body. I was asking if I should hang onto any stock parts and that is what they said to save.

I asked about the oil pan too. The RSX Type S oil pump is often swapped, and it seems like their oil pan will utilize that pump. An oil return bung could be welded to it, but it sounds like that won’t be an option with the kit. In fact, they said their is an oil return location up higher on the block or something, so it isn’t necessary to put it in the pan.

I asked about the turbo manifold. They said they are developing one specific for the 86 chassis, but they believe the manifold for the Miata swap will work, depending on the size of the turbo probably.

I was told they are considering the BMW transmission for a boosted upgrade instead of the CD009. Also, they are currently finalizing the shifter relocation, so that seems to be one of the final pieces before testing and release.

Anyone else have any questions, let me know, and I’ll ask, since I have a continuing correspondence.

Tf-works already had a cd009 k24 brz swap kit if you want that.

Yeah, but it isn't a complete kit, and I don't know how I feel about their oil pan. I'm not too concerned about the CD009 swap right now. Down the road, it may be necessary, but I don't know if the BMW transmission is worse or better, so it isn't at the top of my list right now.

I talked with Harrop, and I should be able to replace the broken wiring harness and replace the water pipes. I should be getting a quote on those pieces soon. I've had some preemptive interest, but I should be posting up some parts for sale. The plan is to disassemble the rest by next week and prep the used parts for sale.

I will be selling the following:

-Harrop Supercharger kit
-ECUTEK dongle and cable (tune and ECU license is not transferable unless my ECU is purchased I think...I might not need it...will have to look into this)
-85mm and 75mm pulleys and belts
-DT flex-fuel kit
-DT 4 bar map sensor
-DW 700cc injectors
-Ace 150 headers/overpipe combo wrapped in DEI titanium header wrap and intact O2 sensors

I should also have a bunch of stuff that should be sellable from the motor that wasn't destroyed or contaminated with oil shavings like I won't be selling the Forester XT oil cooler, but I can't guarantee all the shavings could be cleaned out of it, so it isn't worth the risk to a potential buyer, and I wouldn't sell something even if someone wanted to take the risk.

-Fumoto oil drain valve (should be cleanable)
-AC compressor
-Alternator
-Some engine components like I'm sure some valve covers, oil pan or timing covers might be cleanable and free of damage. We will see. I'm sure someone might need a random part or an extra oil pan to weld up for an oil return line on a turbo kit or something.
-Verus forged clutch fork (shouldn't be needed with the hydraulic conversion in the Kpower kit)
-Verus billet pivot (same as above)
-Clutch slave cylinder (same as above)
