Picture from the top of a mountain into the worst of what got torched by the wildfires two years ago. Still barren.

Went to a car meet this weekend for the first time in several months. I left the group I was with because it was usually high HP muscle car **** sucking over gapping people and this and that. It got old pretty quick and wasn't really what I was interested in. I went with one of the guys from the group that's actually chill and just enjoys driving for what it is. One of the other guys in the group pulls up in a rather beat up AP1 S2000 he was borrowing. First thing he says is it's too slow and the transmission has issues. Me and my friend kinda laugh cuz the S2000 is a pretty enjoyable car and can get squirrely. When he sees my BRZ the first thing out of his mouth is, 'I like the BRZ but it's too slow. I saw one get gapped by a Prius.' Annoyed, I just tell him no he didn't. He then proceeded to insist the Prius is faster than a BRZ/86/FRS. It was a nice reminder as to why I left the group. Of course he drove a Mustang daily and was great at mashing a peddle and nothing more. I'm not sure if I'm getting old and grouchy, or I'm just tired of the new generation, but moving to El Paso has made me despise my car and the groups around here. The amount of negative attention and comments I get are mind boggling.

Go do autocross. It's like a car meet, but with intelligent people. Plus you get to drive through cones as fast as you can.

Embrace the slow. Make it seem like an inside joke they don't understand.

"Well, you know what they say about guys with slow cars....."

Keep saying it but never finish the line

Must be a Texas thing? I have taken mine to 5 meets this summer and never had a single negative comment. Most of the cars at the meets are classics, rat rods or the modern high HP muscle cars. It really is an eclectic mix but mine has had nothing but admiration. The only issue I have is repeatedly having to say "no it is not a Supra/Porsche/Austin/Jaguar" and "well it is a joint venture between Subaru and Toyota and for the first few years they were badged as Scion but then..."

I think it's just that particular group and then the El Paso area. It's a combination of locals and soldiers who all have a chip on their shoulder and desire nothing more than to pass by some little yellow car.

Again, I'm just getting old and grouchy lol

I literally let my bill gas bill run until they send me a shut-off notice. I then pay it and repeat that is how much I hate my... er rather the only gas company where I'm at. My usage is >$8.60 per month but with all the fees and tax it come out to somewhere between $49 to $60. If my local codes would allow it I'd switch to big 'ol propane bottles, which would be enough for summer but, not likely winter.

That's like my water/sewer bill. I don't use anywhere near the minimum and it is over 110/mo with all the fees.

mustangs remain my most fun vehicles to mess with. most of the owners are so self-absorbed and pretentious, just hearing me grab 2nd gear at 30mph take it as an immediate sign that i MUST want to drive at 300mph through residential streets.

but i would never waste time actually talking to one of them.

95.2% of the Mustangs I see around here are base models driven by middle aged women that have probably never even seen the speed limit much less go over it. Mind you that also applies to the 86 and Supras I see.
The only ones that ever seem to want to race me are pop tuned BRZs (never FRS or 86) clapped out Neons with broken body kits and old Civic DX sedans with buzzzing exhausts, cut springs and wheels worth more than the car.
