Aussie dynos always read much lower than US ones. Has something to do with the numbers they put in, there is a lot of "correction factors" that US dynos use to make numbers look bigger. Also, their gas sucks compared to our 93.

Ive never seen anyone make any where near the gains that guy gets on aussie 98 fuel NA.

He's talking 60hp over stock or about 45 kw.

Been to a few dyno days with cars from several tuners showed up, unfortunately our dynos read kw not hp (we went metric a while back)

Stock about 105-115kw 98 petrol
Tuned with header on 98 petrol about 120-125kw (about 15kw or 20hp gain)
Tuned with header on E85 about 130-135kw (about 25kw or 35hp)

Best ive seen on very cold day was 140kw tuned header E85 full exhaust intake mods

so taking worst stock on petrol and best on E85 say 35kw gain or 45 hp.

now that's about what the usa guys get 170 stock 190 tuned with header and about 205 hp E85 tuned header.

the jump in performance with E85 for aussies is higher as out petrol 98 RON is lower quality than your 93 aki.

60hp gain on out 98 RON petrol is over double the best ive seen.

I suspect the baseline run of 130hp was compromised in some way. On stock tune with aussie 98 fuel theirs heaps of knock, ive seen IAM as low as 0.3 on stock cars, this can cause low readings on dyno depending on how car was driven before it was put on dyno.

Or looking at it another way if his stock baseline was 130hp and he's gained 60hp that's 45% power increase over stock

I'm planning to build an all out NA Fa20. Shingo-san from blue moon is getting a quote together for a stroked high compression 2.3l fa20 for me. I'm hoping for around 250whp

I would love a 8-9k revving twin. I just feel like the $$$ to get it there wouldn't be worth it, when I could just buy an s2k instead

Also, concerns about clearances inside the engine are very warranted. I've seen the inside of an FA20 and there is pretty much no room without hitting valves. Would take a *lot* of work IMO.

Yeah the money is never worth it for n/a, but who needs money anyway? lol I had an s2k, loved the engine and tranny but hated just about everything else. I never got the hard top which i should've cuz the fabric top got a tear, and the lack of a decent size trunk or back seat got old really fast. But the worst was the snap oversteer when driving aggressively. Having an s2k like motor in an 86 would be heaven.

The hell with Aussie fuel. My doctor tells me I have a strain of FLU that supposedly originated down under. It snuck up on our CDC wizards and wasn't in this year's flu shot. You can have this shit back.

Yea I was thinking the same thing after I hit submit. I was imagining an FT86 with an F20C swap

All joking aside. I think with the upgraded 17s by adding headers-full exhaust valve springs, tune, highflow air filter you could get to 8k revs and around 220-45 hp. I’m not a fan of the e85 but that could push even farther. After that it comes down to major $$ to start changing major internals and going to a higher compression ratio. Or a full out custom job like Celek is doing but it has taken him year+ and he is still not done but when it is I can’t wait to see the results. The fa20 engine imho will exceed the s2k engine with more time and work done on it. We know it can hold the pressures of FI and the high hp. Now it just needs to be tuned for n/a. Sad thing is n/a is so much harder and $$ takes proper attention to all details. I would have love to see this engine with a mechanical throttle though true N/A should have one.
