Looks like not much has changed.
Subaru ain't gonna know if you swap the 0w20 out for 5w30 for track season...
Or if you have an indy shop do your oil changes with thicker oil and call it 0w20 in the paperwork.

I agree, we need to try and figure out where the North American manual deviates from the Japanese one. the NA manuals always make more compromises, mostly for customer convenience.

I was always told that if I did my own oil changes and something went wrong, Subaru would want to see receipts of oil and filters purchased. So I’d buy my “acceptable” oil at Walmart and immediately return it. They let me keep original receipt of purchase and I saved it for my records. Problem solved.

If Subaru learns you raced the car, isn’t the 5W30 oil a moot point?

“Damage Caused Due to Use of Vehicle in Competitive Events
These warranties do not cover damage to any component that is the result of operating the vehicle in any competition or racing event.”

To those who race their car while still under warranty, what’s the plan if the car breaks on the track?

Outside of the topic of this thread, but fwiw if you have issues "due to tracking", and car is still under warranty, bring it in for repair under warranty. I wore out my front wheel bearings my 1st year tracking the car with lowish springs and camber plates that further reduced bump travel, and they were replaced under warranty.

"Race" or "Track"?
I don't know anyone who would race (as in, W2W racing) a new car under warranty, it's just not a good idea financially.
Unless they are super rich and want to specifically race a BRZ (as opposed to, say, 718 GT4 ClubSport).
A salvage title 1st gen makes a lot more sense for SCCA racing.

"Time attack" events could be considered "competition".
"Track days" don't technically fall under the definition provided, but I'm sure some dealerships would argue that track days void the warranty.

My personal experience:
I got my Brembo rotors and pads replaced under warranty after I cooked them at Laguna Seca and didn't cool down properly.
Back when I was a beginner, I ran OEM pads and nobody told me it was a bad idea — until I learned it the hard way.

An experienced mechanic would easily "prove" that my car was tracked, but they didn't ask any questions and just replaced those (>$1k in MSRP, I believe) for free.
After all, Subaru is paying them to work, so it's a win-win for them and me.

YMMV though, I would certainly not rely on that.

Yeah I feel like if you just keep your mouth shut and go to a good Subaru dealership (which many in my area are, at least), there won't be many questions asked and the parts you need replaced under warranty will be done. Unless of course it's your brakes or some shit that's obvious in the first few thousand miles.
