^ That sound isnt the diff risers or the subframe risers. Its the diff mounts. Thats where the noise is coming from. I'm running all except for the solid mounts and mine is very faint. With the solid diff mounts then you will get that noise. I personally love it but it can get tiresome after a long drive

Poor drifting thread, not seeing many updates.
I haven't been drifting my gt86 much at the track lately, as I'm more focused on getting the ae86 dialed in for competition. Heres some quick vids.. Quick pic of me drifting the ae86 for the first time since its rebuild. Was its first shakedown run, didnt have power steering or a handbrake. Gearing was all wrong, driving position was awful. But have since fixed most of them.. Heres some videos too.. Reposting an update from my thread since it pertains to drifting:
Here's a fun update. I kept breaking axles. I broke 3, all clutch kicking. So, I did the Parts Shop Max Solid Aluminum Subframe and Diff Risers. It was a major pain in the ass to install but the car feels great now. I highly recommend these if you plan on doing some drift days and/or track days. The whole rear of your car will be louder but you can feel everything the back end is doing. This is a huge step forward for drifters and road racers. The front end tells you what its doing through the steering wheel but the rear is often unpredictable with soft rubber bushings, this 100% solves that. I also got Driveshaft Shop 600hp axles and Aluminum One Piece Driveshaft. There a highly needed set of components for what I am doing with the car. I've been using Driveshaft Shop for almost 10 years, I love them. I clutch kick with confidence now. I'm also prepped for the high amounts of power we'll acquire later this year. V8ery high amounts. Get the bushings out of the subframe and diff was the worst. Much bad. Very pain. But finally after about 10 hrs it all came together. A close up of the Driveshaft Shop 600hp Axles and Aluminum One Piece Driveshaft So what do you do next? You test it. Testing went well. Balance is important while drifting. Make sure your passengers know to keep things balanced and symmetrical. Full lock is pitiful on these. |

Do you guys think I can get away with just doing the upgraded DSS 600hp axles and not doing the Part Shop Max subframe and diff risers.
I plan to keep my car pretty much at stock power levels.

Without the risers, the axle angle is still going to be messed up. All that's happening is you're getting stronger axles with stronger cv joints. I still think they would wear out from the horrible angle over time. I'm willing to bet at stock power, the risers alone would be enough. That and higher rear tire pressure to lower grip levels would more than likely take an abundance of stress off the OEM axles.

Nope... Been there. I snapped my OEM axles then replaced them with the DSS 600's and still had an ass load of issues when low. If you read through my build thread and the thread below you'll see all the shit I went through. The CV's leaked grease everywhere, the boots spilt and had to be all reclamped and errr it was a fucking nightmare. The only thing that fixed it was raising the car back up 20mm or so. Read this... http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42282 This is how high I was when I had the DSS axles in and all the issues.

If I get DSS axles, before I install them, I'm replacing all the boots with the stretchy boots. Ive heard awesome things about them and between those and risers, I think the rear end of my car would be just about bullet proof for up to moderate power levels (~350hp)

I had looked into it a while back briefly. Just a matter of finding the right size boots and getting new clamps.
The green item is a tool used to get the boots on. Having the stretch boots allow the boots to twist and flex and stretch without tearing. So DSS axles + stretch boots + diff and subframe risers= corrected roll center, corrected axle angle, save cv joints, no torn boots/leaks (practically bullet proof). You'd never had to worry about the rear end again unless maybe if you start pushing for higher hp numbers.

All good info ^^^
I think most of you guys can just get the PBM subframe risers plus DSS 600hp axles and be safe. The risers feel a lot better and its a grip improvement. The diff risers/mounts were rough to install, zero fun. But if you want the best axle angle and most amount of insurance for your axles, do the diff risers/mounts. Like Tyler said, you won't have to worry about it again. It is a nice feeling.

Was watching a mate do the solid subframe the other day. He just used the torch on the factory bushings.
