FRS single stage vs dual stage driver's airbag

I recently picked up a car with some damage which I'm working to fix up. I received a bunch of factory parts with the car when I purchased it, as the previous owner had modded it a fair bit.

One of the things changed, was a GT86 airbag which I've pulled out to sell. The GT86 bag was a dual stage bag, with two connectors on the back of it. In the GT86 airbag packaging, the previous owner had kept the OEM airbag which I've reinstalled.

The odd thing is, the original FRS airbag is only single stage. It has only one connector on the back in the center, instead of the two harnesses which are typical on these cars. I have a 2013 FRS of my own (same year and model as the damaged one I bought), and I popped out the OEM airbag for a look at it is also dual stage....

Is this a case where some of the early cars were equipped with single stage bags, while others were equipped with dual? I can't imagine the previous owner's scion airbag being from anything but the car I have, but it does seem strange there would be one plug left unplugged in this situation. It also seems unlikely that dual and single stage bags could be used interchangeably without triggering any lights etc.

Anyone see one of these before?

Ah, I bet based on the above link the swap of the igniter part was already done. I suppose I'll just swap them back, so I can sell the JDM one as it was originally setup.

Thanks mav.

I should be able to double check this by seeing if the part number on the back of the GT86 bag is actually the FRS oem part num. If it is, they clearly were mixed and matched like described in the link.
