daily driving --- what ever feels good
track day--- I like wrestling shoes, very good feel for pedals and cheep when on sale.
racing --- get fire rated shoes like Simpson or Sparco etc.

Plus, I just found them super uncomfortable for any extended periods of walking (terrible flat feet). By contrast, for a mild trade-off in pedal feel, the MacBeths are super comfortable, have a smooth heel area so no grabbing, and they're a lot more reserved styling wise.
Geez it's been three years, I really don't enjoy my MacBeths and reading this, it's because they're rather flat soled so I feel the exact opposite of you, I can wear the Tigers all day long walking around and be comfortable while the MacBeths have me crying for mercy in an hour or two, plus they don't breath at all. Converse lands somewhere in between.

But they're easy to slip on and off and look mildly presentable so they were my work shoes (desk job) for awhile, they're also super durable and wear well, especially if you keep them clean. I just can't wear them for more than an hour without giving my feet a breather. Soles seem a bit think imo but they're certainly passable for driving, I'd just rather kick them off especially if it's for a trip over ten minutes.

okay yeah I had a pair similar.
I googled puma sparco and it came back with the speed cats.
instant memories when I saw the black ones.

nice shoes but the soles are so narrow, I couldn't heel toe for beans. that was in AE86.
I still maintain the adidas shell toes are great and so far my favorite.
I had vans back when I used to BMX, im sure those would be good also. never tried converse chuck taylors but probably same.

oh, and the guy I bought my silvia from in japan included some fire rated nomex simpson shoes. size 11 though. too big for me. I might still have them in a box of random s14 parts if anybody is interested. might take me months to find them though lol

Time flies man. As of late I've been switching between Adidas Sambas and Converse All-Star High Street Mids. I enjoy the padding around the heel and they seem altogether more comfortable than the classic high tops. They look pretty decent so they still work in pseudo-casual work place environments. The Adidas Samabas are probably the most comfortable/best feeling street shoes I've used for driving, but I have a bit of a pet peeve with tongue sliding around too much.

Probably need to replace the Sambas as I'm pretty close to wearing a hole through both of them.

At the suggestion by @cjd, bought these earlier in the year for autox/spirited drives.

Just finished up a 9 day, 5.5k mile roadtrip wearing exclusively these:

Extremely comfortable and you'll feel everything!

I think the rule is-- if it's uncomfortable, thin and fatiguing, it's a good racing shoe.

I heel and toe the best with Nike skate shoes (wide and flat bottom), so that's what I go with

How rigid are those soles? They look like you can tie them in a knot.

Too rigid and you lose pedal feel.

These are my summer driving shoes.

Yeah, no thanks. I need the bridge to be rigid into the heel. From the ball forward can be soft and pliable for feel.

Humm you'll probably like adidas motorsport shoes then. I find them too stiff and only works well with older cars with really heavy pedals.

I had these NASCAR shoes for a while long ago they were 20 bucks at the adidas outlet.

Two finger action.

The soles are pretty good, but bridge, as you can see, is flexible. Even though these are meant for trailrunning, I dare not use them for such activities. You'll feel little rocks poke your foot all the time.
