I had no clue what an AE86 was until I joined this forum. If they feature the new 86 in an anime then it could indeed go way up in value. Otherwise Scion or Toyota badging it will be worth the same.

its already in the new episodes of the same anime.
and the anime isn't what got the AE86 to cult status. its the other way around.
and the whole reason I bought an FRS is because its a nod to the AE86, which I have owned 2 of.

I guess you don't know who beavis and butt-head are either?

I was like wow dude it says what it is on my insurance AND registration. got that one thrown out

Scion doesn't have a great reputation. If it did, it would still exist.

So what you're saying is I should put Subaru badges on my FRS so I can fight the tickets?

@Tcoat the Japanese only have the Toyota Emblem on the rear.

The Europe 86 model is a gt86 and Australia has the GT /GTS models.

OP any FR-S Release Series is equal to the 86 as it's a limited model.

Toyota already offers my car as a 86.

It's the same car minus the yellow paint and it's right hand drive.

I know! That is why I said "they don't". Also why I said that the Monogram (and by implication all specials with the same options) could be called GTs.

That guy is just uninformed. Between Toyota and Subaru, Toyota's are a way more reliable car. My father has been a mechanic since he was 15 and used to tell me how bad Subaru's were. Very unreliable and they never wanted to cover warranty work. Also getting parts was a hassle. I love the WRX but since my father always had to fix my cars I was warned not to buy one. Personally I think if it wasn't for the WRX, which is one of my favorite cars, the brand wouldn't be as popular. Just my opinion though.

We weren't talking about Toyota. We were talking about Scion. And it's not a matter of reliability ratings. It's about public perceptions.

Despite the fact that Scion was made by Toyota, it was a different brand with different styling, marketed to a different group of people. By selling cheap ugly cars to young people with really horrible taste (the FRS being the exception), Toyota's own marketing people created an image of Scion as being garbage throwaway cars, separate from the marketing image of Toyota as being reliable.

The guy I was talking with (and most people who are not Toyota fanboys) have likely never seen any data on safety or longevity of the Scion models. All they have seen are douchebag white boys wearing baggy jeans and backwards baseball caps driving shitty cars around with their buzzy stereos cranked up to 11 to assault everyone's senses with how cool they aren't. That, coupled with the low prices, implies a lack of quality. The perception is that Scion was junk.

With the FRS/86 I think it's OK to re-badge it to a Toyota, as the rest of the world got it as such. It's not pretentious because the badge isn't making it out to be another car. It's no worse than rebadging a Honda Fit to a Jazz or a Lexus IS to an Altezza.

Pretentious rebadging is putting an M badge, AMG etc. or a badge that never belonged to the car, at all, in any market.

Just my 2 cents.

At least they will be cheap in the near future hopefully. I really want a manual first gen xB.
