Not even close. What makes you think that? We are a rich, gluttonous, consumerist society, so I'm surprised you think we are the cleanest. I wouldn't even begin to think that.

We are 15th in carbon emissions per capita of all countries. Of large countries, we are number two in total carbon emissions. China is number one in emissions with four times the population, but with double our emissions, and half per capita. Next is India that is also a very populous country, yet they have half the carbon emissions and about eight times less per capita, despite having four times the population.

https://www.worldometers.info/co2-em...ns-per-capita/

The US generates the most plastic waste, 85% of which ends in landfills. We export a lot to Asian countries to go into their landfills or to be burned.

Quote:
As a nation, Americans generate more waste than any other nation in the world with 4.5 pounds (2.0 kg) of municipal solid waste (MSW) per person per day, fifty five percent of which is contributed as residential garbage.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waste_...tial%20garbage.

From this graph, you can see how China and India have greater populations than their waste, but the US and other rich nations have more waste than population, on this scale.

The new houses were built to current fire codes. Those are surprisingly effective.
The majority of Lahina was built out of straw and sticks from the turn of the 19th century.

This is hard of braining for those who can't and look to those shouting loudest.

If the disaster in Maui was due to a wildfire, how come the Elites' mansions are untouched, but the normal houses are burned to the point, that even their toilets have been evaporated into ash?

I'm not sure how this relates to anything in this thread.

I've been through multiple, highly-destructive wildfires and some homes survive. Winds change direction. Firefighters sometimes are able to hold a line. In the video you posted, multiple mansions are destroyed right next to some that survived. There are private firefighter companies that exist too that can be paid to protect assets by individuals or insurance. Building materials and other things play into what will catch on fire. My coworker's home didn't burn down, but it was right next to a home that did, and his place was entirely saturated in toxic soot that was in his ventilation and in the walls, so much so, that the insurance basically had to rebuild half his home, tearing down walls, HVAC and insulation to fully clean the house.

People will believe anything. I feel like we need a Khaby Lame video of him cutting from a space lasers conspiracy theory video to a video of a man setting fire to some fields with a match.

Conspiracy theories are far more exciting, and then there is the fear. We are creatures of the jungle, trying to anthropomorphize our environment, fearful of everything that might be out to harm us. From an evolutionary perspective, it is far better to believe the rustling of the bushes was a predatory cat than a gust of wind. Likewise, a good conspiracy is our fear center trying to anthropomorphize natural, random and mundane events. We assign agency, which gives us something to fear and to fight or flight.

So it is hard wired, and it is laziness masking as efficiency to do the easiest thing. Good article talking about confirmation bias, inability to assess probability, dunning kruger effect, etc. This seems relevant:

Quote:
According to behavioral researchers Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky, the more primitive parts of the brain like the amygdala cannot process complicated information. While the PFC can make rational decisions that take into account long-term consequences, making these decisions can be exhausting for that part of the brain. This is why people find it easier to make quick decisions rather than think long and hard about issues

Moreover, scientists have found through functional magnetic resonance imaging that holding firm in one’s belief activates the nucleus accumbens, the pleasure center of the brain. On the other hand, changing one's belief stimulates the insula, the same area that is triggered by anxiety, fear, or disgust (Gorman & Gorman, 2016). If you're wondering why beliefs are so hard to change, it is because we're hard-wired to feel great about standing our ground.

You know, there's a time understanding and education, and then there's a time for ridicule. This is most definitely the latter.

The maggots swooped in rather quickly in Hawaii to buy properties from the poor bastards, some of whom were still trying to locate loved ones. I don't blame the theorists at this point. Look what the sjw assholes did to Property values in other parts of the country. Property insurance has been soaring in South Florida this year for no apparent reason. In preparation for a wealth transfer event?
