I think Toyota secretly owns this forum to create hype and 95% of our members are paid Toyota employees/auto bots.

USB plug on the FRS/86/BRZ is for many purposes. Experimentally now, it IS hooked into telemetrics, GPS, and EFI systems as well as OB-Acquisition. Not really sure how much of the information stored will be exportable out of this, but this is the same socket that the Sony Playstation 3, Data Retrieval unit is supposed to plug into, that allows REPLAY in your PS3 after an update (<--Rumored) as well as open source software development by aftermarket companies tied to Toyota/Subaru Product Development teams in respective regions of each native country, for PC data acquisition (data logging) of lap-times, ECU log, inputs and velocities, sensor readings, GPS tracking, Geo location, etc for many things useful on and off race tracks, and even social networking.

It is also (in Japan at least) to link advanced features of the portable devices such as next gen smartphones that feed traffic data via cell networks to integrate with on-board navigation, blog-spotting, social network checking, tagging, friend-locating/navigating, touring group destination updates, etc.

It's also already being R&D'ed with APPS created for this car, such as the silly Initial D Cup-O-water G-senser display.

So in short, the USB port seems to be a fully capable system CAN-BUS integration unit, with updatability with advanced vehicle integrations of the future.
