License Plate Mount?

Anybody know what this is?

I have noticed it on photos of a lot of JDM GR86’s and BRZ’s?
At first I thought plate adapter but the GR86 has divots for both JDM and USDM plates…

Just thinking of a better way to mount the plate with out it sitting right on the paint.

In japan, removing your plate from your vehicle is illegal. It can’t be removed or tampered with unless the vehicle is sold

For that reason, rear plates are on a pivot point so you can still remove your rear bumper without having to go to a someone who has access to remove the tamper-proof seal on the bolt

What I did was I put adhesive foam feet, like you put on the bottom of something to stop it sliding around, on all four corners of the underside of my license tag. Then I screwed it onto the car.

That way if the plate ever vibrates for some reason there's a bit of a cushion between it and the paint. Granted, if dirt or grime gets under there it could abrade the paint a little (or a lot) but it will still be FAR less damaging than if it were metal-on-paint.

I get these carbon fiber plate frames that have a foam backing for the license plate, for all my cars. Bit safer than the metal plate vibrating or brushing up the paint.

+1 to the foam backing sticker. I used this one on all my license plates: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07ZZJH39Y/

I only used the foam sticker, not the hardware, as the dealers already took care of the hardware for me (for better or worse).

Just put a few dabs of silicone on the back of the plate.
