I'm not going to get into a debate about how the shipping industry works, but most of the current problems actually have very little to do with the US government.

Consider this: the ports of Long Beach/Los Angeles have had RECORD number of containers pass through in the first months of this year.

The prices are sky high for container rates.

What part of this is controlled by the government?

If you can't figure out the answer here then it will take several hours to type out a proper response to answer your previous post, time I don't have... plenty of resources online can tell you why shipping rates are so high.

could be worse. A friend lost $40M overnight when Trump announced tariffs from China in 2017/18 because she had 40+ 40' of raw material already inbound on the ocean.

Yeah, I am hoping to have more containers ready to go in that window. We discussed holding out on our current containers for better rates but I am too heavily backordered to hold out for cheaper freight. My main import is tires and the shit happening with Shanghai is double edged since a lot of raw materials for tires comes from there. Mostly the synthetic fibers and carbon black.

You just said when trump set tariffs on China your friend lost a lot of money. Our government controls a vast majority of the global economy. But regardless hopefully we see a change soon because I need some damn headers.

I think you're confusing the two things.

Spot rates are for containers that are booked as needed, those are sky high but slightly lower now vs earlier this year.

Tariffs are part of duties levied by CBP. I only mentioned it as a reference to a "could be worse" scenario for landed cost for goods...

but yes, keep thinking that this is somehow all under the control of the US government and it can all go away tomorrow... if that was the case, then it is not capitalism that we are enjoying, it's authoritarianism we are living under since the beginning of time.

But it is authoritarianism. Our government is ran by the rich. Not by our government. Come on bro you should know better by now. We’ve seen it too many times.

It’s a complex issue involving all the policy’s of governments across the world on top of issues with aging infrastructures, sharp increase in consumer demand, and a huge sudden decrease in available labor. Then an invasion got sprinkled on top.

It shouldn’t be but I hit a pot hole and it bent my skid plate along with my manifold and it’s got a giant crack through the heat shield and I’ve definitely got a leak.

The EPA is being bullies again so I'm sure vendors aren't keen on stocking catless headers atm.
