What does a catch can do and is it nessesary for super charged cars?
Long story short my boyfriends car blew up with a kraftwerks running perfect for 2 years and one day just didn't turn on.
Now I want to do any preventative things to keep this from happening to me and my edelbrock kit. Are catch cans good at preventing this? And what about an oil cooler? Any tips to prevent my engine from exploding would be nice, Thanks |

I have the solid tune in check, and I check my oil every week Also I don't push the car much , it's just my daily driver Do you think oil cooler is nessesary in daily driven edelbrock car or not really? I have not and will not ever track my car(just not my thing). But I also live in Florida, so I know it can get hot here in the summers |

Still calling BS the KW kit blew up an engine. Sounds like someone doesn't know how to perform maintenance or troubleshoot a FI problem. No follow-up on recommended fixes suggested by forum members either or an exact cause/ symptoms of said "blown up" engine.
Anywho, catch can...supporting mod. Not necessary, but doesn't hurt to have one. |

There's no particular mod or driving style specifying that now a catch can is necessary. Check your PCV valve and crankcase breather line. If there's oil, a catch can is beneficial. If there's no oil, it isn't. FI or not, track usage or not. Every car is different.
That said, Velox and Radium both make great products. http://www.ft86speedfactory.com/velo...l#.WKOTLmK9KSM http://counterspacegarage.com/radium...-frs-gt86.html |

We took it to 2 shops and it is true the short block =done for and there was metal in the oil. That car was brand new with 30k miles. We 100% believe it was the super charger. Car is currently being fixed and we are getting rid of that super charger and he's going to drive it stock from now on. |

Either way, we purchased a whole separate engine and it will be swapped in hopefully next week. Lost faith in that super charger. Hopefully edelbrock doesn't blow up my engine now too. I've been looking to just get rid of it and move to an RC350 now cause I'm nervous every time i drive it.

When I go FI I'll get a single catch can for the PCV. Seems like a dual setup is overkill. Most don't see much from the crank case. I don't think lacking a catch can would be a cause of acute engine failure. There would be symptoms before failure. Regardless it is a good idea to get one.
