Bump start in a manual trans?

Is it possible to bump start the MT BRZ with the push to start ignition? I always thought that was one of the advantages with MT if your battery dies, but how does that work with the push to start ignition?

I would like to think it works the same way...if it doesn't, then there is yet another reason to not have this useless and most likely future problematic feature.

It's hardly useless or problematic. It's just a different way of doing the same thing a chipped key does.

It will have the same issue most modern cars do; you need enough power to get the ECU running before popping the clutch will do any good. 100% dead battery is a no go. If you have enough to turn the ignition on, you should be able to. This goes for key or keyless models. Couldn't even pushstart on my 96 miata when the battery couldn't run the ECU. Car has no idea what to do to run the engine.

Say you have enough juice to unlock, power lights etc but not the starter... Would you press the start button twice to get in ACC mode, and start rolling down a hill and pop the clutch in 2nd or 3rd?

Not that this should matter to anyone, but the FM says this vehicle shouldn't be push started...

That'd work, as all the pushbutton start does is the same thing that holding the key in start mode does: crank the starter motor till the engine turns over, it's just that all you need to do is press the button once while holding the clutch in, instead of holding the key in start while holding the clutch in.

Every owners manual I've ever seen says that.

I'm pretty sure engaging the clutch will disable the starter though. I don't see how holding the start button will help while rolling

This is exactly how it works. I had to push start my car at the last autocross because I killed my little lightweight battery by leaving the radio on (stupid move). I just popped the clutch in 2nd gear with a couple of people pushing and it fired right up.
