If I'm paying for a full clutch, I'm using the full clutch

Behold...

Edit: I'm thinking grammatically speaking, the tittle should've been "Whole Clutch".

I'm guessing is was a "left foot braker" except they had their foot riding the clutch the entire time driving?

It's pretty impressive to see a disintegrated clutch disk.

I agree the "Trust me bro" source at times is bogus. But at the same time, I can sort of guess how this happened, the Mazda 3 transmission can be tricky for someone new to manual or just first time users. 1st and 3rd gear are really close, whenever I would let a friend or family drive mine, after a couple of failed takeoff tries, and the sudden smell of burning clutch, I would tell them to make sure that they weren't on 3rd instead of 1st. Add some heavy foot plus inexperience to the mix and this could've easily happened. Maybe......

my brothers replaced a few dodge and fiat clutches that have looked like that. one was a money-shift, tore the entire friction material disc straight off the rivets.

Doesn't take long. It's possible to completely destroy a clutch in a few seconds if done properly.

I just don't buy certain parts of the story. Like what kind of sales guy lets that go on for 30 minutes? Mazda really warrantied a clutch that is blatant abuse/missuse? Manufacturers are usually pretty stern with warranty claims.

I don't believe it one bit. The smell and smoke from a roasted clutch is distinct, which they would notice. There is no way the salesman would just casually allow that to continue.

I'm brutal to my clutches, and I have burned clutches up, and I have never had a catastrophic fail like that. I would guess there was some type of alignment issue, manufacture defect, bolts that weren't torqued properly or the clutch was flipped the wrong way or something.

I do not buy the story either but what appalls me the most is that they say this was a new car test drive and after the damage they just replaced the clutch and pressure plate and then put the car back on the lot to sell as new (Apparently?) after they did a "cleaned it up" to the flywheel.

Maybe they were driving past a pizza shop.
