First we need to change it from baby-shit brown to maybe a nice gray. Then my recliner.

I have the big tv, going to get sound. Besides comfy chairs, what else makes a "theater room"?

Posters, popcorn machine, lighting, and soda spilled all over the floor. More seriously, some simple DIY sound treatments can help a ton.

While I agree with @Soundman that Atmos can be cool, I'm not sure it's worth the upgrade unless you're mostly watching modern fare which has it. There would be some challenges (same ones I face) getting the side fronts placed properly, since they'd be in the traffic pattern a bit.

If you're looking for an 'upgrade' I'd see if you can get three floor-standers which are just short enough to fit under your screen, and use those across the front. 3 identical vertically oriented speakers. Place 'em 6" from the wall (or more). The biggest problem I see people face is understanding dialog; that's compounded from using speakers which are too small, placed right on the wall (that makes a null in a bad place for understanding speech) and using a horizontally aligned center channel (a compromise). That in turn makes people turn up the volume, which now pushes the small speakers further into distortion, making it painful and further exacerbating the problem.

If the look becomes a challenge... that's where a false wall comes into play. It can be a simple frame painted black with speaker grill cloth over it. Speakers right behind it, and TV flush. Options for some nice lighting tricks behind it, and with the sloped shape of your tv 'nook' you could leave it short of the sides and make some built-in cabinets on which you can place models or other movie-related display items.

If you want to go further, yeah... you can do a second row on a riser. I used Ikea bent-wood chairs (like the POÄNG). Depending on room acoustics, that can also become a good subwoofer box...

And with the size of that room, to get good effects, you'll need to move some air. No way to even come close to the value you get out of a home-built box.

It's a rabbit hole if you want it to be.

wet bars are nice, though a little excessive for a lot of people over dry bars. i've worked in a couple houses now where they do a dry bar in an area about that size--just a pre-built lower and upper cabinet, with a countertop. it's relatively cheap, even if you go for full-custom cabinetry, and it's a really nice way to have a functional mixing station/storage area without it looking like a disaster of half-used glass bottles on a random counter top--like most bar area's can so easily turn into.

A few years back, I had the same desire. So, when I replaced our microwave, which is over the stove, I bought a new one with the strongest exhaust fan. Well, that works just so-so. Still, every time I cook something, even if the fan is running, our whole house smells like what I'm cooking.

If you want an exhaust fan that REALLY works, and your stove/range is on an outside wall, I'd suggest chopping a hole in the wall and mounting an exhaust fan in that opening.

Have I done that? No. Why not? Because I'm lazy, it's easier to go in and fire up a whole house fan that I installed before we got central air.

I'm in for a pound on this. Will vent to outside. Studying WA state residential code now.

I expect it to have the capacity to suck the smoke from a full-on oven catastrophe.

Here is an extension of that scenario for you, if you have more than one mini ichis.

True personal story. We had both of our sons in college, just barely being able to help them with their expenses, when our 16 year old daughter announced she was quitting HS because it wasn't learning anything. That same week she took and received her GED and enrolled in the local Junior college.

DANG! Three kids in college at the same time plus mrs humfrz, who already just completed her masters degree, was working on her PhD.

However, on the "lighter" side, economically, when the two younger two decided to go for their masters degree, we told them, that was a great idea, but they were on their own. Yep, they figured it out and received masters degrees. And mrs humfrz figured she didn't really need a PhD.

A word to the wise - start saving NOW.

Now, what were you saying about a new car -
