Got my new car Opti-coated and it's all clean now!
I know you guys probably have seen a lot of WRB BRZ pics but I feel I want to share mine especially after it's all cleaned.
I got my car on Feb 12 but never had a chance to really drive it or take pictures of it. Today I got my car opti-coated by Kevin at GTA In Detail. I had high expectation when i sent in my car and I must say, Kevin's work is BEYOND my expectation. Not only the exterior is flawless but he also did my interior. He even removed the stubborn glue stuff on my inside windshield and I didn't even ask him to do that. His level of service is just... wow. All clean and shiny! Before the Opti-coat there were some imperfections here and there but below is the biggest. Before: some light scratch. don't know where it came from. I never noticed because it has been rainy and snowy ever since I picked up the car. After: scratch? what scratch? |

I have the same scratches above the doors and since I told my dealer not to prep my car I know they have to be from shipping.

Just a warning for those thinking about a "clear" bra - there is some noticeable discoloration that results, I saw a few with the bra at the auto show last week and did not like the effect, especially on white paint. A question - does it yellow over time with exposure to UV?

Talk to Marco that works with Kevin at GTA in Detail (and a freaking wizard when it comes to clear bra), and he will tell you the exact same thing.

A clear bra will only yellow if you let it. There are two reasons they go yellow, UV is not one of them. The first is that older film, or poor quality film with no clear coat can dry out when exposed to chemicals for prolonged periods (like touchless car wash soap). That is much less common now that almost all film has a clear coat.
The second, more common way, is lack of proper maintenance. PPF is porous; if it is allowed to remain dirty for extended periods of time, or gets some contamination on it (like concrete dust), it can go yellow. Luckily this can be corrected. Also luckily, it can be prevented by regular washing. |

One car at the show with the bra is a forum member's - the one with the orange striping and wheels. I am sure he took the proper precautions etc and installed his 3M bra properly, but to me it's quite noticeable, the way it dulls the paint. YMMV.
