I've owned 2 FR-S and one 86 (the current one) as you can see I like the "new car feeling" but to this day I'm more on keeping my 86 than replacing it.
Last week I've seen live a 2nd Gen BRZ and It's a great looking car for sure. But I don't know... it lost some of it's "purity". The big downside to the 2nd gen look wise, is the interior. The door panel are so... empty, the weird hump onto the passenger side and the whole packing is weird. 1st gen with the upgrade of the 2017+ imo is the perfect interior. Simple, elegant, sporty. Even if the interior of the twins are not considered to be good looking I love it every time I'll step inside. I'm not a fan of a full screen cluster too. It's damn too bright at night and it don't have the feel of a RPM needle jumping around when shifting gear What I'm really happy about is it share lot of parts with the 1st gen twins, so we could have parts supply for a while ! Didn't have a chance to drive it, I hope to have the chance to drive one soon. I'm gonna keep my 86 for sure, but massive respect to Toyota and Subaru to goes on with a 2nd gen of this cars. It's been already 10 years and they still doin' it.

The gen 2 model is much less of a blank canvas than my 2013 FR-S was. That's not a bad thing, they have taken notes and added in things people want rather than leaving everything for the aftermarket.
I briefly considered trading my '18 STI with under 44K km for a GR86 or BRZ, but going from the most capable all wheel drive system to a twin with snows just doesn't appeal in the long term. It would have to be an automatic sport tech, so my son who is 14 will be able to drive when he gets his license eventually. I won't make him learn manual if he isn't into it.

I put in an order for a 2nd gen BRZ to have a fresher chassis/engine/interior while matching the speed of my 1st gen on E85, but I will definitely miss certain aspects of my 1st gen.

My initial thoughts at the beginning of 2nd gen-
- it is ugly, specially rear - 1st gen was built with passion and the chief engineer Tada-san was such an passionate about this project, 2nd gen is not. 2nd gen more like commercial than passionate. - 1st Gen is OG. And OG is always beloved no matter what comes next Now-a-days, looks like my initial thoughts are not that correct that I used to feel. |
