Every adult, no matter how well off they are, all think of value vs price. Like other adults I've talked to, I purchased it over a Porsche or a Mercedes, because at 60k miles, a service on either of those costs far more than any repairs on this vehicle, for basically the same [adult] driving experience. Having a new one would mean I would need to deal with all the new things that come with all the new car versions. The surprises. After a few years, the surprises will be revised. Then, no matter what the car looks like, (another non-issue for adults,) I'll buy the new, all-wheel-drive version.

I've used a MT as an excuse to save my brakes by down-shifting to slow down, and for coasting downhill to save gas. But I'm with you - I may be driving an AT some day too

Well, you had me until this. How is the way a car looks (basically external design) not a part of an adult decision? Even if you are in a pure race environment where form follows function, typically a well performing car has some level of "eye pleasing" design built into it.

That's what the paddles are for....

Unfortunately i don't find it particularly engaging to use.
I'd rather just let the car do the shifting for me.

MIGHT change my mind in a track situation but in everyday and spirited driving? using it feels pointless to me.

Interesting. I use mine all the time, even when in Auto mode. As far as whether it's engaging or not, I cannot say.

These are very person to person things. I am also one who uses paddles very little in any automatic including dual clutch ones, instinctively if I want faster I go WOT. Paddles don't seem to come to mind for me.

Don't know if it's apathy when I drive an auto. Perhaps it's the manuals forcing engagement since otherwise they don't work.

In Auto, I downshift using the paddles primarily for passing on the highway (I double or triple tap it) because it's faster than letting the auto do it by itself.

On occasion I'll downshift to reduce speed in areas where the speed limit goes from say, 55 to 45 then to 35 just because I can.

Me too. I wouldn't imagine not driving an auto in traffic, but I still enjoy driving a manual in the mountains.
