it was the fkn cats, I knew I didn't like cats, but this changes everything. We must exterminate the blight riddled felines from this earth if we are to save the humOn race. They are a unstoppable bioweapon made for the untimely demise of humOns.

We must fight back.

I'm interested as to why there were like no flu numbers since COVID. Do viruses have to compete with each other for parasite space? Did people just not report it? Were the tests making false positives? Was it all three and wearing masks / excessive cleaning? Stats are funny...

Sort of like how even though driving got cut by 26% traffic fatalities went down only 3% because people apparently drive faster and intoxicated 30% more often when their spirits aren't broken from sitting in traffic all day.

It's not statistics that are funny. It's human behavior.

From what I can gather, the flu is not nearly as contagious as COVID. With so many protecting themselves from COVID, the flu didn't have much of a chance of spreading. Also, we have a lot of defenses against the flu thanks to all these years of getting them, but not against COVID.

Flu data is published every week by the CDC. Here is the latest.

https://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/index.htm

Edit: And here is the Covid-19 weekly tracker.

I could see the obsessive cleaning, social distancing, and mask wearing to have significant impact... I doubt we just happen to overcome it naturally or through flu shots coincidentally at the same time as COVID though. For awhile I was thinking that COVID was just a name for a really contagious flu strain but I guess their genomes are fairly different in some key ways.

Yup. "Flu activity is unusually low at this time."

It's like we almost beat the flu trying to fight the rona. Unless it has something to do with testing only for the rona and not for the flu in most cases. (Not saying it's a conspiracy just that maybe we care mostly about COVID19 right now because it's deadlier).

The bolded statement is my conclusion as well. I would imagine that flu numbers are accurate due to people seeking treatment for flu like symptoms, being tested for coronavirus and that coming back negative.

The flu is endemic. With a bit of work, we could actually get rid of it. However, we are collectively too stupid.
