Tell me hows the volume of the radio/speakers.

I really got to crank to to about 30 to get some decent sound

@sav : does changing the radio without changing speakers address this issue?

not in my opinion. the speakers fitted are of the lowest grade / quality I have ever seen. they hardly have a magnet and weigh grams... I didnt notice a differnce

PS and the ones in the back are almost tweeters... just fade the sound to the back and you will hear...

Same here. Because of the road noise, you really have to crank that volume up if you wat to hear anything.

I agree, it's no high end system but it does get the job done.

I think that the standard head unit is underpowered. It sounds much better with an aftermarket unit.

it also depends on the music though, i have some songs that just don't come through right, and some that sound really good.

I'm not sure, I can't even remember what the std radio sounded like but I think it was a bit "pap". As it is now with the new one it's not great but it does add quite a bit of bass.

When I installed the Kenwood the techie tried to convince me that the car had a sub under the seat because "listen to the bass".

With the bass cranked up a bit my driver's side door panel vibrates annoyingly ...

Must try "Sail"...

then the high spec must have a better speaker setup than the standard...

Ah, I see we're talking the same language. That is my standard "test" song for "casual listening.

I was in the market for an iPhone speaker dock recently. Went to Dion Wired and played that song on almost every single dock they had. Sounded okay on some and crap on most. Ended up with the B&W Zeppelin which does it justice.

For serious listening it's Norah Jones - Don't know why. Few systems can handle the clarity and high notes. There is also the Chesky sampler CD but that makes pretty much any ordinary system sound inadequate.

I have 2 sets of music. My serious music will never go near a car.

The unit and speakers are disappointing. Especially since Toyota were once good at this. I had a 2003 Corolla GSX and the standard system there was even better (sound quality wise) than the BMWs i had after that. But obviously the money in this car was spent on the drivetrain, so i can understand.
