High pitch noise in 6th gear

Hi,
In 6th gear (MT) between 72 and 80 mph (3200-3700 rpm?), there is a high pitch ringing only when I'm on the throttle. It's hard to tell if the noise happens when it lower gears at that rpm because the engine noise is louder. Anybody else have that problem?

Engine is completely stock. Just hit 45,000 miles. It does it on all roads. Tire pressure is fine. I don't know if it has always done it or I have just started noticing. I bought it with 28,000 miles on it.
Thank you

Hi,

Do you have any power mods .. ??

Miles on your car .. ??

Does it do that just on certain roads .. ??

Have you checked your tires pressures .... ??

Did it just start doing that .. ??

Come back.

Thanks for the additional information......

It could be several things:

* you just started noticing it ......

* transmission gear whine

* differential gear whine

I would suggest that you check/change the transmission fluid. Check/change the differential fluid. Even if that doesn't "cure" it ....... at 45,000 miles, it sure wouldn't hurt.

I noticed this exact same thing at that speed/RPM range on my 2016 brand new FR-S during my first week of ownership, so I think it's normal. Most likely gear whine?

I changed the transmission and diff fluid with Motul gear 300 at 30,000 miles.

If it's normal, then it's kinda a bummer considering those are freeway cruising speeds/rpms

How loud is the whine? I'll actually have to try to pay attention to mine on the way home and see if I notice anything. If it is normal and the whine isn't too loud, you could get an aftermarket cat-back exhaust and just overpower the whine.

Mine does that and always has. I'm at 67k. The whine is not loud at all and only if you hold that rpm for a couple of seconds. I don't think it's anything to worry about. I also had my trans fluid changed at 60k with mogul gear 300. It goes away if you drive at 3k rpm or like 3.5k rpm. I also think it's a gear whine. You have you have things pretty quiet to even hear it, any music or loud cars near you can make it impossible to hear.

Well then, it's most likely gear whine. My 2013 FR-S doesn't do it ..... or I can't hear it.........

Back-in-the-day, when gears would whine ...... we would just put heavier oil in the case, till it would shut up.....

Hmmm.......I used to get that whine all the time but you may be correct I haven't noticed a bit of it since my cat-back install.

Mine would whine too. I think it's common for all cars. My Corolla and Fiesta had it too. You have to be higher than 3000 RPM to hear it. I usually hear it in 78+mph to notice it. You should be fine tho.

So during my drive home yesterday I didn't notice any transmission or differential whine. However, I have a Invidia N1 Cat-back exhaust which is one of the louder exhausts for our vehicles. So my vehicle is probably not the best to use as a reference.
