I tested drove a 2SS a few weeks ago as well, but I decided Miata ND is a better car for me. I'm waiting for the RF.

Leaning that way myself based on test drives of SS, ND, and '17 BRZ/GT86. Not sure about the RF's look yet though, have to see it in person, and if it's OK then I'll want a test drive - it weighs 120 lbs more than the soft top which does not appeal. And well equipped here it's going to cost ten grand more than even a Series Yellow...

Yeah. Miata is a ripped off in Canada for sure. I'm a SCCA member, I can at least get it at invoice, but I'll haggle for more. RF maybe ~100lb heavier, but as long as rotational weight is reduced, the additional weight from hardtop doesn't matter.

Well the RF's extra weight being inboard may not hurt the polar moment of inertia but being up high it's going to do a nasty number on the COG height giving even more of that Miata body roll unless they stiffen the suspension (which has its own tradeoffs for street use). I'm leaning to the soft top Club with BBS/Brembo/Recaros for about $38k with negotiation (there will be no discounts on RFs for a while).

Unless you don't plan on keeping the car more than 5 years, it's good to just get base Club and go aftermarket. Koni+Flyin' Miata Spring, UL09 17x8, Willwood BBK cost about the same as BBS/Brembo package while offer much more perf per $.

Additional weight is actually distributed all over. Top only add 60-80lb. Extra Sound deadening, standard techs included in the RF.

I'd love one of these but they are so expensive over here in the UK

Good luck. Let us know how much you are enjoying it...

The Miata RF is just ugly. Why not go with the original instead...

I think that the RF miata is possibly the best looking car out of Japan that is not over 60k dollars in DECADES.

that thing is beautiful.

There is a reason why I won't go test drive a 2017 Camaro 1SS.

I have not made car payments in 20 years and I do not want to start again now.
