I've driven the Cayman S, Cayman R, and drove the FR-S for a day. Haven't driven the 370Z though.

The Cayman R and S is a superior driver's car, not surprisingly. Not exactly a fair competition though. The Cayman has a much better chassis--bumps are more isolated and don't chatter through the chassis. The suspension damping is also better, it scrubs the little undulations much more competently. I actually didn't like the pedal positioning of the Cayman though for heel and toeing, which was my only criticism.

The biggest upside of the FR-S is the immediacy of its RWD nature. You can feel the rear rotating without going past the limit, and even hear the stock rear tires slipping before the front. So fun. In a Cayman you'd have to push it harder due to how much grip it's got, and so on regular roads you can't enjoy pushing it as much. The feeling of the rear rotating in the FR-S seems more apparent than in a Miata. Steering could also be a bit more communicative.

My main gripe with the FR-S is the engine. I'm not in the "it needs boost crowd"--I have an 06 Si and love high-revving NA engines. The 2.0 Boxer feels a bit tepid and flat--it picks up a bit at 6k to the redline, but lacks the urgency of the K20 engine. It sounds decent at lower RPMs, but from 5k and up it's just a thrashy sound. Wish that the engine had more character.

On another note, a person's nuts if they don't think the M3 is a sports car--probably have never driven it on the track. It feels so right--the steering feel, throttle inputs, balance, chassis, everything. And that V8 screaming to the redline.
