Here's a link to the spreadsheet that was being maintained if this is what people are referencing.

Just to be clear, Tcoats assertion was ~30 pre-recall, that spread sheet is all post recall with 3 that has 0 miles in the after recall field. I am still unable to verify the ~30 pre-recall claim myself. |

Does anyone know if the tech manuals have been updated for the valve spring recalls? I'm past 100k and have avoided the recall but now I'm having a burning oil smell and wondering if I should just have it done to have the gaskets replaced. I haven't had a single issue with the car yet and I certainly don't want to go down the rabbit hole of repair mishaps like the stories I've seen here.

Got the car at 42k miles. Dripping oil at the cam plate cover thingy. Got kinda icky when driving it hard. Car was due for an oil change, and thought new coolant courtesy of Toyota was kinda neat, so I took my car in. Oil leak fixed! |

Between late 2014 to early 2017 I did keep a spreadsheet but when they sort of tapered off I stopped tracking since it looked like those that were going to fail had and any further ones would still match the pattern. Almost all the failures were early 13s which had had leaks right from the factory and ended up spinning a bearing. The majority of the bearings were the #4 but a couple did have others. Many of the reports included comments or pictures of excessive sealant in different areas. Some of this sealant was extreme and clearly blocking channels. I put forth a theory that the robots were not set up well during at least one engine run and applied too much sealant and as a result the oil flow on some was reduced. The obvious blocked passages were one way it was reduced but there could also have been small pieces that broke off when the engine was assembled. If these small pieces broke off after the pick up filter they could easily make their way to the bearing channels themselves and block flow. You would never even know it was happening until the bearing dried up and spun since there would be no drop in pressure over the whole system. All in all the results and the root cause of the pre recall failures line up exactly with the post recall ones with the exception that pre were robots that screwed up and post were people. Look at post #53 here https://www.ft86club.com/forums/show...t=81002&page=4 Most of this one (including the dissenters that changed their mind when the recall failures started for the same reason) https://www.ft86club.com/forums/show...=122464&page=4 Another 13 but everybody went chasing ghosts instead of the ovious issue http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=127599 Pretty much my whole case in the first post here but again people had to look for some mystery cause https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=107959 I will dig up more later.

Subaru 13
I’m at a loss... 3 weeks after dealership performed recall work, in traffic at a stop light. Light goes green, about 2nd gear in and car just shuts off and I coast off immediately to the right and have to push the car the rest of the way into a firehouse driveway. Fast forward, Subaru of Puyallup dealership and Subaru of America determine rod knock and repair will cost $17,000 and that recall work has no correlation to the failure. A goodwill gesture $2,000 owner loyalty coupon is offered and later, $2,500 is the best they could do towards a new car, not even a used. They can’t tell me the cause and say that it can just happen. I request pictures and Dealership says I can take my own. I take pictures and present it in email to Subaru of America and they say this is an issue between the Dealership and myself. Does anyone have any contacts that can escalate help with Subaru? I would greatly appreciate it.

What are they planning to do for $17,000 that does not involve manufacturing a new car?

I was quoted a bit over $13k for a complete engine, fwiw. Similar scenario as that poster for me, SoA says it’s between the dealer and myself, dealer says it can’t possibly be related (not that that makes any sense).
