Well I'll open it anyway and see what I find. I don't imagine it should be much different at all from stock on this "stage 1" block

There were no clearances or other paperwork unique to this engine included, only paper instructions for their recommend break in and installation procedure

Interesting, maybe he reached out to IAG for his build sheet; all his information were digital screenshots; thanks for checking!

Very interesting, slight variation on the main bearing clearance .0013 seems like they rounded up on the loose side past OEM spec.

Rod bearing clearance is basically the same as stage 3.

Piston clearance is the same.

Also the ring end gaps are the same.

I think I have my target clearances for building up my block now; time to power wash the halves and bring it to the machine shop for resurfacing, honing, and some measurements.

Me too, trust me. At this point I just value the car moving under its own power, I don't care if it only made 1 WHP over stock. But it really doesn't matter if I put all the turbo stuff on or not, the hard part is getting it all back together and tuned to run again. It's going to be such a vastly different car than I had last driven, I can't wait! Mostly new suspension components, new motor mounts and transmission mounts... it'll be my ideal car.

That's the fun of it. If things go to sh!t then you go back to drawing board (open up the wallet) and figure it out. And if you have an alternative daily driver to use its an even better situation.

My wife and I ended up buying an older 4Runner (2004 V8 Sport) just to have in case one of the other cars was down - this is mostly because I had to do the manifolds on my wife's truck and it was down and out for 4 days. It has turned into her daily but also another project car for me.

Back on topic, the entire feel of the car is going to be crazy different - for the best I believe. Also I love the idea of a throwing together a frankenstein turbo kit.

So the big question I have is, if you were to start this whole process over again would you have gone a different route?

I agree, I enjoy the process of thinking and planning much more than the average joe. I have my wife's 09 Nissan Sentra ( sold my DD Honda I bought because she isn't going to be driving anymore or any time soon) so that's the beater. At least it has a manual e-brake handle for snow sliding, even if it's FWD automatic, certainly better than snow shoes.

If there's one thing this car lacked, it was suspension stiffness (for my preference) compared to my 92 autocross E36 I had before. I like having a stiff car, I don't care about rattles or squeaks, I just want it to communicate. I wanted to wait until most of the suspension parts had warranted upgrading before doing it; now is as good of time as ever. I can't wait to feel the vibration of the motormounts in my steering wheel.

What would I do differently? Definitely wouldn't have done the J02 recall. I don't have regrets about trying to make the CXracing kit work; it does function and I would still be using it if not for the motor trauma, but I get the feeling I would've ended up here anyway at some point (and was ready for that). I very much look forward to having components that are in like-new or brand new condition that I can trust for years to come. I will not back off and stay NA, I loved the car NA but I am determined and will not concede. A turbo kit is not complicated and there's no reason why the car shouldn't stay together with a competent tuner setting everything up ( not me)

Beginning to get ready to put this bitch back together! I must face the task I've been avoiding... Stripping all the Threebond off of the heads, cams, and everywhere else I find it.

This is going to be a long weekend.

Brake clean and brass brush is your friend. On the larger areas I used a soft brass wire wheel. If you need any more then slight pressure respray with brake clean, it will break it down.

The real fun part is putting the timing cover back on.
