Screw Size Inquiry

Good morning all,

Last night, while attempting to install hood dampers, I over-tightened one of the 10mm bolt on the fender lining area and broke the top portion off...

Now I need a replacement bolt but having a hard time looking for the right size.. I attached a diagram for your convenience (#3 on the diagram), please tell me what size bolt I need to get...

Thanks!

M10-1.25x ___MM is the way to look for it. Metric bolts are measured in mm, not inches. Also on top it should have a number stamped in it. 8.8, 10.9 or 12.9 those tell you the hardness. Other than that if you had a comparo picture, or just bring it to a local fastenal and they'll be able to help you size it.

you'll also probably want a screw extractor to get the threaded portion you snapped off out of that hole. Unless you already took care of that.

That is not an M10 bolt. Bolts are measured by the diameter and pitch of the threaded portion. It was most likely an M5x1.25 or M6x1.25 bolt with a 10 mm head. Remove one of the other fender bolts and bring it to a napa to match it up.

yeah what ozzman said, bolts are measured by diameter not head size my mistake.

I did the same thing yesterday. Had a hell of a time getting the rest of the bolt out. Were you able to get a replacement and if so what size. May save me a few minutes at the store.
