I like the new IS but im also disappointed by it. The exterior looks crazy aggresive and i like it, the interior is just the more better laid out RC interior with an electronic parking brake and a touchscreen added. I like the interior enough but i wish they did more to it to make it a bit more "current lexus interior design" as found on the newer generation Lexus cars (ES/LS/LC/UX).
Powertrain options...im hoping that the IS500 is real, otherwise im fine with the choices (could be better for competitive reasons) but wished the AWD models got an 8 speed instead of the 6 speed (I would hope the 6 speed has been reprogrammed to be quick and responsive). Being in Canada its likley we get just the AWD cars. Plus the AWD hump is kind of annoying. With the car being wider im hoping the AWD hump is more like the RC (less intrusive than in the IS).

everything looks good on 2021 IS but the fact the interior almost identical to late models with CD PLAYER still kinda outdated specially moving forward into future design

yeah its a bit disappointing. i was hoping they'd actually do a more extensive refresh like what the last gen LS got during its refresh. That interior changed the old gen lexus touchscreen center stack style into the more modern GS styled integrated screen + joystick.

All they did to this one was swap out the IS interior with the similar but slightly different RC interior, made some dash vents round and added a touchscreen.

I wouldn’t mind a CPO 2021 version in a few years. This car speaks to someone like me who values reliability over outright performance.

We know the 8 speed/ Toyota V6/CD player (lol) combo is extremely reliable, only thing I’d be concerned about is how long that 10.3 inch display will last and how much it costs to replace. the moving speedometer/gauges are probably costly as well.

Lexus Files 'IS500' Trademark for Potential V8 Sport Sedan

https://www.thedrive.com/news/34521/...v8-sport-sedan

Quote:
Our dreams of a true IS F successor aren't dead yet.

fter hearing rumors that Lexus would bring a 5.0-liter V8 back to its compact sports sedan, we were pretty disappointed when the heavily-refreshed (but not all-new) 2021 IS debuted with zero new powertrain additions or changes. If a new trademark filing holds any water, however, our dreams for a spiritual successor to the IS F may not be dead just yet.

Spotted by a ********* forum member, the Toyota Motor Corporation filed a trademark for "IS500" to the United States Patent and Trademark Office last week, the same name those previous rumors gave to the supposed upcoming high-performance Lexus IS. Naturally, the mark is described to be for "automobiles and structural parts thereof."

When unofficial rumblings of a future IS 500 were heard last month, it was said to be Lexus' last application of its naturally aspirated V8, the same 5.0-liter that lives under the hoods of the LC 500, GS F, RC F, and defunct IS F. In its current applications, the engine makes around 470 horsepower which would make for a vast jump over the IS 350's 311 hp. Still, that's lacking compared to the 500-plus ponies expected from the upcoming BMW M3 and M4 with which an IS 500 would compete.

Around the same time Toyota was filing this trademark, however, reports stemming from a Japanese publication surfaced saying that the twin-turbo V8 LC F had been canceled due to the global pandemic, which begs the question: If Lexus can't afford to do a high-performance LC, can it come up with the scratch to build a high-po IS?

Whatever the answer to that question may be, Lexus unveiled the "new" IS a couple of weeks ago making a lot of hoopla over that car's apparently enhanced, more balanced handling and the fact that it was developed at Toyota's Nürburgring-imitating test facility in Shimoyama. If Lexus is serious about targeting the IS at enthusiasts, there are few better ways of doing it than offering eight, turbo-less cylinders.

A Lexus spokesperson declined to comment when reached by The Drive.

Its beastly looking, hoping the IS500/ISF rumors are true!

I'd rock one of those if and when they are used.

Love the exterior styling of the new IS. Front looks really mean and the design of the interface between the rear 1/4 panel and trunk give it some nice "hips".

Man that is a handsome vehicle. Whenever I see a 1gen is300 I consider getting another but I think it has as much power as the twins. This 2021 doesn’t have too much either which is a shame compared to the ISf.

The new car makes the older car look outdated.....as weird as the rear end is, i love how they made the rear haunch quite pronounced, gives it some beefiness.

I dont think the spindle is going away anytime soon.
Big, bold, brash grilles are in now and Lexus has finally made the spindle shape work on their cars (minus the old SUV's like the LX and GX which dont work...they were just pasted on, and the newer SUV's like UX and RX just needs some tweaking.)
