FT-1 maybe?
That's true, but aesthetics are important. I personally think the LFA looks better than all of those others you mentioned. Personal preference, obviously. There's also the fact that good ol'Jeremy Clarkson said the LFA was the best car he's ever driven.

I hate driving the 86 afterwards b/c it just sucks compared to it. BUT, one thing that is better...the 86 is a manual. The paddles are great but I feel more in tune with the 86 (heal/toe, rev match, etc)

heres a link to my photo stream of my car and the LFA

the LFA wasn't an epic fail. although i'm not 100% positive, but I'm sure that engineering exercise, helped create what we drive today. I've had the pleasure of driving one on a race track, taking her up to 120 mph, pacing a professional race car driver in an IS-F. pacing isn't technically the right word, it was more like keep up with the IS-F. i could only catch up in the straights (im not a good driver).

You can't say it was an epic fail until you've driven one. and then i'm sure you'd change your mind.

Also the guys who came to test drive the LFA while I was at the track was Bruce Jenner, and then a rich middle eastern oil guy with his sons. the car wasn't meant for us... who have budgets. If I remember correctly they sold them all, so that tells you something.

something else to consider...
for 300k you can buy a 458, aventador and a 650S. But so can anyone else with 300k. The LFA was a limited run.

The styling is questionable but it is also 100% functional. Can't say that about the other cars listed.

The have already used many things from the LFA on current Lexus models (gauge clusters, the carbon fiber loom they designed is still working over time, under panels on the RCF was derived from R&D on the lfa, etc.

The LFA isn't everyone's cup of tea - and I'm very biased - but it is VERY impressive for Japan's first supercar.

The FR-S looks like the LFA's not-as-handsome-or-athletic little brother.

Fuck me. That LFA is near perfect. If I had the dough, that's what would be sitting in my driveway. Way rather have the LFA over any other car in that price range. It's a technological marvel.

I don't base the success of this car so heavily on how well it sold, and dont agree with the article.

the first two cars are labeled as "new" but one has 1k miles, and the other has over 100. chances are they already had an owner. I've heard about some buyers selling them not too long after buying them, not putting many miles on them.

Yes there's dozens of examples in the low hundreds and a few used with less than 100 miles. If it doesn't have a registered owner it's still new and I think there's a few out there I didn't get in my 30 second search.

It's interesting, to consider it still a success you'd have to not consider it a consumer good, at that point it's not a car and more an exhibition, it's fine if you personally want to define it as such but you're not going to get many people agreeing with you.

Cool car, great car, amazing car, that will be a footnote in automotive history at best.

Im totally cool with people not agreeing with me. And know I wont change your mind. if everybody thought the same way. this would be a boring place.

I've spent a lot more time around them than the average person. Saw the first Nurburgring edition to land on US soil in the port of long beach. several track days, Scott Pruett took me for a ride in the LFA. So in my life, its more than a footnote in automotive history

Toyota never intended to sell a lot of these things. In fact, supposedly they lost money on everyone they sold because of the amount of R&D behind it. What other company can afford to do something like that?
