I honestly read this as a glass pack from the 60's as well. Didn't even think of the tomei exhaust because I never considered it a good one to buy.

Either replace the muffler or keep driving. The material inside will degrade over time.

im guessing the only way to tell if it is from the resonator or the muffler is pull it off? it is my understanding they are both perforated tubes with pack fill

I dont think you'd even really be able to tell which one it came from, honestly. Not unless there was something obviously damaged.

i just ordered a 55$ endoscope so i guess well see. if it is the muffler that is a cheap fix, the main pipe is nearly 600$ so id just get a new exhaust and keep what is left in the event of something bad happening

I'm just really curious- what could've been going on where there was enough exhaust pressure to shed some of that material? And why were you there to see it come out?

it was actually just sitting on the end of the pipe when i got out of my car. i assume flatfoot shifting at 7850 over and over did it. i got bored during lockdown and would drive up this fairly steep for the area mountain road once or twice a week doing that.

The material breaks down over time with general use. With motorcycles with aftermarket mufflers, it is common to repack them and they are designed to be serviceable.

and considering you own one of these cars, you should know the door speakers are 2 ohms!

to me, "60s" means either 60 seconds, or the 1960's.

i'm most curious as to why it matters.

i beat, and bang shift my car all the time. my last worry is if the exhaust packing is going to make like spit balls at a substitute teacher....
