Nice monitors! NT1As? I have NT5 with omni capsules, for piano recording. Can't beat an omni for that.

Thanks! I have a couple Studio Projects omnis I use for drums overhead or ambient room mics.

The nt1a is a pretty versitile mic, I like it!

I'm thinking of buying a new laptop, was considering 2 in 1 from Dell or HP however as I am planning to run some drawing packages I noted that the graphics cards are considered insufficient for the software...

So reverted to standard laptop 15inch, but have a dilemma, Intel i7 6 core processor or i9 8 core with 16GB or 32GB RAM. Both come with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 TI 4GM graphics card...

Go as big as you can afford. The faster the processor, and more memory, the longer it'll last before it's outdated and slows down

How did you find this thread?!?

I wasn't sure that my post warranted a new thread, I thought that someone must have kick-started something similar.. A very quick search and bingo!!

I don't want to go crazy on the price so was doing some man maths, i7 with 32GB RAM or i9 with 16GB RAM. My thinking being that the bigger RAM will give the i7 an easier time..

No, at least not yet. I've been playing with MS Flight Sim with the Quest headset to decide if I want to build the rig around that rather than monitors. Ultimately I think I'll end up setting it up for either. The VR is pretty nice and really does put you in the plane, but you still have to have the controls.

an i7 is probably fine, i9 is a little overkill for most stuff right now except trying to run the latest-greatest-games at ultra high settings.

memory, graphics, and hard drive speed(should have an ssd--preferably an m.2, or msata) are going to be the biggest items that will determine the performance of the computer, as well as how long it's going to last.

something to keep in mind is upgradability. you could get 16gb now, and as long as the laptop supports more, could upgrade the memory later.

but graphics, get the absolute biggest/best you can get, as that's never upgradable in laptops, and will slow things down as time goes on.

Currently, a Dell XPS 15 (9500), i7 (6 core), 32GB RAM, 1TB hard drive, with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650Ti (4GB) is sitting in my basket. I keep flip-flopping between this and an i9 with 16GB RAM. Choices, choices..

I'm liking what you are saying, however I can't get a bigger graphics card unless I go for a gaming laptop. The mad keyboard colours and other silly aesthetics aimed at gamers puts me off the gaming laptop..

Have you considered upgrading to a Dell Precision?
