Now that I think about it, my parents only ever owned Black, Blue and Red cars.

My maternal grandparents almost always had yellow, including my Grandmother's Corvair and my Grandfather's, various farm trucks, back when you actually could get cars and trucks in an array of colors.

Ive only ever owned white or black cars...and that was really only because i had to pick the best looing colour (IMO) out of the blandest selection:

2006 Corolla XRS was white, but i think i had to pick between white, silver and black....

2015 Honda Fit was black...but it was because the other option (white) looked like a rental car. Would have gotten the blue one if it was there.

2016 Scion IM is white...Well it was used and the price/manual/mileage combination was the best one i found at the time. I would have gotten blue if that was available at the time.

Our BMW X1 is Estoril blue...i think it was the only one on the lot equipped the way we wanted (color and specs) so we had to jump on it.

Oceanic blue 86 GT manual hardly ever shows up on the used market so i have to prepare myself to go for a black or white one (i like the new pavement grey on the 2020's so thats an option if i end up going new)

If i go the subaru route, im only going with their World Rally Blue.

Yeah i like blue cars.

My dad has a more diverse color palette of cars:
VW Beetle (i dont know what colour)
Green Chrysler Reliant K > Brown Buick Century > Silver Chevrolet Corsica > White Chevrolet Corsica > Grey Corolla > Gold Nissan Altima > Silver Nissan Altima

Sure there are some that will consider heat over colour preference but the number one selling consideration for any car in the general public is colour. People will chose their favourite colour over such things as heat more often than not.

I added these links for effect, because clearly you are wrong about "the number one selling consideration for any car in the general public is colour".

Using some real data shows one of the states where you would expect the white/silver car rule to dominate shows that even combined they are only a little over 40% of the cars sold. This is still a far cry from "9 out of 10".

So Rhode Island seems to be the only state that buy colors based on what statistics show to be the most people's favorite color, blue. The other states seem to choose colors that don't.

So that's 1/13 based on that graphic you posted, for a guy being a stickler about someone saying 9/10, I mean... 1/13 vs "People will chose their favourite colour over such things as heat more often than not", but perhaps "more often than not" means something different.

https://www.livescience.com/34105-favorite-colors.html

I mean, in most studies, shades of grey and white doesn't even register in these polls.

Haha it better be a damn good reason to ever get a gold or fucking champagne car. Jesus. For an old lady in her Sienna cruising the Palm Springs strip or something.

I've always owned 'safe' or dark coloured cars - white, midnight blue, dark burgundy, dark grey metallic for the BRZ (and dark graphite grey for our Subaru Outback), but my taste has changed as I grow older. I always thought that greys were more 'mature' and 'classy' but realized who cares about that? I was really torn between WRB and DGM, and picked DGM. But when my wife saw another BRZ in WRB, she said 'Maybe you should have bought the blue - it's nice'.

I used to wear black t-shirts almost exclusively when I was younger, but started wearing bright colours a couple of decades ago - influenced by my wife.

So, when I was picking out a colour for my C8, I really fell in love with Sebring Orange Tintcoat, but thought 'white looks classy - maybe I should get white'. I finally picked the orange and I'm really happy I did. It's a sports car - bright looks right!

I believe the chart is a bit misleading. I think what it is showing are the most common car colors on the left, and the state where that car color's percentage of overall sales is the highest, but is not necessarily the highest percentage in that state.

So, in the case of Rhode Island, they buy 11.65% of all their cars in blue, but that means in the other 49 states it may be 11.60%. It's also very likely in Rhode Island Black and White make up a much larger percentage than blue

Or maybe it's just me that didn't understand that from the beginning...

Chart makes no sense *at all*. You're telling me *purple* cars are the most popular in Michigan? At only 0.83% of the car population? I don't know what they're trying to convey here but it *can't* actually be the most popular car colors in those states.

"9 out of 10" was obviously a bit of hyperbole, but anyway a quick search shows that Hawaii does have the lowest percentage of cars that are not in the colorless black/white/grey/silver range at 17.1% https://www.iseecars.com/most-popular-car-colors-study

That's what I was saying. The chart says that of the 50 states, Purple is most popular in Michigan where 0.83% of all cars sold are purple, not that it is the most popular car color in Michigan.

I used to be a fan of the "classic" colors depending on the car brand or country of origin.

My MINI was british racing green. My Datsun roadster is white. My BRZ is white*. My Ferrari SF90 is red. My 911 GT3 is silver. You get the idea.

But maybe I'll change it up with whatever my next car happens to be.

- Andrew

*I realize that you could argue that WRB is the classic Subaru color, but white is kind of the Japan sports car color.
