LOL! I think it's probably the opposite. With her tastes, it's the BRZ that keeps me 'desirable' to her (well, as desirable as a 60-something curmudgeon/geezer/non-repentant geek can be), and the Mustang fends off other women (because of the mullet/low-life vibe it gives off).

The Mustang is a 2015 GT (6 speed of course), first year of the current S550. I bought it because it reminded me so much of my favorite Mustang, a 1969 SportsRoof I had back in high school. It's a great performance value, 435 old school grunting hp in a retro pony car package. But Ford build quality is very disappointing, especially compared with any Japanese car.

My wife has been great for the 38 years we've been together in putting up with (= not divorcing me) despite all the car shenanigans (I've owned over 100). The only thing she puts her foot down on are British cars. There were a few (MGB, Sunbeam, Triumph) that tested the strength of our marriage... She encourages me to indulge my car disease (within reasonable pricing limits) with anything except British cars.

PNW? We lived in Portland OR for several years.

Lol I’m just talking shit. The brz/86 is one of the most beautiful cars especially if tastefully modified, and phenomenal handling. Just slow.

Mustangs are cool but played out for my liking. They do put down some good numbers for the price point though.

If only we could combine the two. Something like a Japanese muscle car. Maybe a twin turbo 3L V6 RWD coupe putting down 400hp and in the same price range as a mustang.... lol.

LOL, I’m totally with you. The BRZ isn’t a ‘fast’ car, but it’s quick enough for street driving.

Yeah, I was thinking the exact same thing about the 400Z. It’s like the love child of an unholy union between a BRZ and a Mustang. It could be the best of both worlds. I can’t wait to drive it. Several long test drives. Preferably back to back with the next-gen BRZ. If the 400Z is everything I hope it is, it might replace both my BRZ and Mustang.

It broke our hearts to leave Portland. But the city changed completely over the past decade. It wasn’t the place we fell in love with. I was hoping we’d stay somewhere in the PNW. I liked the Anacortes area a lot. But, one thing led to another, and we ended up back in New England.

The twins are quick enough to exceed speed limits and lose your license, but the engine is the weak link. It was engineered and built to a price, and presumably Toyobaru intentionally left space above it for higher performance models (WRX for Subaru, Supra for Toyota).

Yeah, I don’t think you’d need a BRZ and a Mustang if you have a 400Z, if it lives up to the promise. It should split the difference between them nicely, much as the existing 370Z does already.

Of course, the new BRZ/GR 86 is shaping up to be interesting. Looking forward to seeing the instrumented performance tests for it.

You're absolutely right. While the BRZ/86 is fast enough (for me) for street driving, the engine isn't exactly inspiring (I miss my S2000, whose engine was one of the most inspiring I've ever driven). But the BRZ/86 is/was an inexpensive car. Like most things in life, you get what you pay for.

I'm thinking the exact same thing about the upcoming 400Z. Since getting the BRZ I already rarely drive the Mustang. When I do, it's out of nostalgia, since in many ways it's retro, reminds me of the 60's Mustangs I used to own. But then I get frustrated with its shabby build quality and quickly get back into the BRZ. The sheer power, sound, and feel of the Coyote V8 is fun, but the greater relative refinement, quality, and cohesiveness of the BRZ is more satisfying. Kind of like the difference between the girl you might date, vs the one you marry.

I too am greatly looking forward to (hopefully) several long back-to-back test drives of the new BRZ vs the 400Z, and see if either one will tempt me away from my current car. It's time to simplify life a bit and go down to one sports car. One of them might do the trick.

Is Nissan teasing the production Z or a color option?

There's always that chance and I always hold that as the last gasp attempt.

for me that's the best way to judge a car. i remember when Supra pics were 1st posted online. i was thinking "wow that looks like dog shit!". but after seeing a few in person the design started to grow on me. i still dont think its a perfect design by any means, but it does look a hell of a lot better in person.

Yea, I agree the Supra looks better in person, but unfortunately only marginally so. I suspect its the same with the Z. They went "minimalist" with it, so it just seems to exude a bland character.
